Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert shared one of tennis’ greatest and fiercest rivalries. Their rivalry began in 1973 and the two provided the tennis world with some of its most iconic moments. But, there was another rivalry in a different sport that was well known for its greatness and ferocity.

It is none other than the rivalry between the two boxers: Muhammad Ali vs. Joe Frazier. Even tennis legend Martina Navratilova recently stated that it was the best rivalry in all sports during a discussion on Twitter.

Recently, one tennis fan tweeted about the best rivalry in sports, stating Martina Navratilova vs. Chris Evert as the greatest rivalry not only in tennis but in all sports. The tweet read,  “@ChrissieEvert and @Martina was the best rivalry not only in tennis but in all of sports. The two met 80 times 60 of which were finals.”

The former tennis player, Navratilova, also responded in acknowledgement.

As is the case on Twitter, another user disagreed with this statement as he responded to the tweet thread by stating that Muhammad Ali vs. Joe Frazier has always been the best rivalry across sports. “There was always Ali v Frazier,” read the comment.

The legendary Hall of Famer agreed to the legacy of Ali and even mentioned that all three matches they fought were top-notch and historic.

“Yeah. True. All three fights were great!,” Martina said.

The two boxing legends (Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier) engaged in three epic battles in their careers. That was and continues to be one of the sport’s greatest fixtures. During that period, Ali won the heavyweight world championship three times, 1964, 1967, and 1974. Frazier, on the other hand, was the winner in 1970. The rivalry between the legendary boxers Joe Frazier and Muhammad Ali may be the best illustration of boxing’s greatness, beauty, and brutality.

Roger Federer vs. Rafael Nadal: Another famous rivalry

Many tennis fans consider Federer and Nadal’s legendary rivalry to be the greatest in men’s tennis history. Federer’s poetic shot-making stands in stark contrast to Nadal’s fierce groundstrokes.

Between 2006 and 2009, their rivalry was at its peak. At that time, the Swiss and the Spaniard held the top two spots in men’s tennis rankings.  Federer and Nadal competed against each other, three times in a row In the finals of the French Open and Wimbledon from 2006 to 2008.

Federer used to dominate his opponents in almost every match. But then Nadal came and changed the entire complexion of the sport. When playing against Federer, the Spaniard completely turned the tables. Federer performed better on grass, whereas Nadal performed better on clay and hard courts. In fact, Nadal has defeated Federer on all three court types—grass, clay, and hard—to record his biggest victories.
