British star Katie Boulter is not the one to hold back, whether with her sharp forehand on the court or her bold opinions off the court. However, she didn’t need a racket in hand to set things ablaze this time. After withdrawing from the Qatar Open and the following week’s Dubai Tennis Championship due to a leg injury, she found herself drawn to Belinda Bencic’s victory at the Abu Dhabi Open. A few words and playful observations from her left the followers intrigued. A joke or a hint? None knew but Alex de Minaur‘s reaction added fuel to the fire. So, is it a hint towards a new chapter?
After Belinda Bencic beat the American sensation Ashlyn Krueger in the Abu Dhabi final by 4-6, 6-1, 6-1, Boulter posted on X, “Get married 🟰 win slam Have a baby 🟰 win 500.” Her words were a testament to her renewed zeal, one she found from Bencic’s determination for the WTA 500 title, four months after returning from her maternity leave. Boulter bagged a WTA 500 title in the 2024 San Diego Open but awaits her Grand Slam breakthrough.
Was this X post a subtle hint at Katie Boulter’s plans for the future though? The Briton didn’t clarify, but her Aussie fiance’s response stirred intrigue. “You got any ideas you wanna share with me???” De Minaur responded with two laughing emojis, a nod to his growing bond with his WTA No. 24 girlfriend. The couple got engaged last December after four years of dating and shared snippets of that moment on their respective Instagram handles.

De Minaur and Boulter had an unexpected start to their journey. The Aussie revealed during his interview with Tennis Channel’s Nick Monroe that Boulter denied when he first asked her out. “Well, I guess everyone’s going to know this now… The first time I asked her out, she straight up said no. I asked her out for a coffee date, and she replied with no… That was tough to take, but being the persistent person that I am, I asked again and she said maybe. So we went with that, and here we are,” he said.
Despite that initial rejection, De Minaur didn’t give up and remained determined to change Boulter’s mind. And, they eventually started dating in March 2020. From rejection to growing as tennis’ beloved couple, their journey has captivated the fans.
Beyond PDAs, Boulter and De Minaur shared an intense commitment to tennis. They have won several titles on the tour, serving the power couple narrative quite brilliantly. Last March, the Aussie ATP star won the Acapulco Open and flew to San Diego the next day to witness his girlfriend’s second title win at the Cymbiotika San Diego Open. Then in June 2024, De Minaur won the ‘s-Hertogenbosch title hours before Katie Boulter’s Nottingham Open victory.
In an interview at the 2024 Australian Open, De Minaur talked about how their mutual admiration for the sport helped them navigate their career struggles.

Continuing further, the Aussie highlighted how Boulter’s support inspired him to remain optimistic amidst the demands of a hectic schedule. “Tennis is a very stressful lifestyle, as it is. It’s always great to have a partner that you can count on, help you out here and there. It works both ways. I’m there to help her when she needs it. She’s kind of given me a different perspective on how to take results. I used to live and die by the results, but now I’ve learned to enjoy the process and everything that comes with it. Thanks to her I’ve learned to deal with these losses a little bit better.”
And, Boulter echoed a similar tune. “Feel like we’ve set up a very positive environment. I think it’s showing right now, I think he’s really rubbed off on me in so many different ways – the way he holds himself, the way he works. Having his expertise on the side, it’s great for me because it’s a support. It’s someone that I can talk to about anything, including everything to do with my career,” she said with gratitude towards her partner.
Despite their love, Boulter and De Minaur are fierce competitors on the court as seen in the United Cup this year, where they were part of different teams, representing their respective countries.
