In March 2023, American automobile manufacturer Cadillac and tennis sensation Frances Tiafoe joined hands. The company wrote, “Icons don’t just inspire change, they champion it. Cadillac is proud to call tennis phenom Frances Tiafoe a new brand ambassador.” His tennis journey has been like a movie. But as Cadillac put it, “with all odds stacked against him,” the 26-year-old made it. However, the odds are stacked against him once again, but not in terms of his tennis skills. This time, it’s Tiafoe versus his girlfriend and Jessica Pegula!

Considering Frances Tiafoe is a Cadillac brand ambassador, you would think he would be good at driving because, well, the brand trusted him enough with its cars to partner with him. But Jessica Pegula feels otherwise. Tennis Channel recently shared a video of Pegula from the Indian Wells Masters. Traveling within the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, the 30-year-old made a few confessions on the rightly named Confessional Cart. One of the prompts read, “Which player would you trust the least to drive this cart?”

Well, before she got around to answering that, there was a slight interruption. Another cart with a paramedic truck in tow, with the cart driver shouting at them, “Get out of the way! Get out of the f**king way!” Amused, Pegula said, “That was incredible. I cannot believe that just happened.” However, remembering she had a question to answer, she read it again, and without a second’s thought, she replied, “Frances Tiafoe. 100%.”

She continued, “Do not trust him with any motorized vehicle. I don’t know why that came so quickly. It just did. It’s just an honest answer. So sorry, Foe.” Whether it was the question, her answer, or the situation Pegula’s cart encountered with the paramedic truck, the 30-year-old made another confession: “Wow. This is the greatest confessional ever recorded.” Can we be sure it wasn’t just Jessica Pegula trash-talking Frances Tiafoe, though?

It’s no secret the two Americans are extremely good friends. And they make an excellent tennis team, too, as seen during the 2023 United Cup. But part of what makes their dynamic so enjoyable is the trash-talking they indulge in with each other. In fact, Pegula revealed in an interview that she wished tennis would stop looking down on this aspect of the game. When asked who the biggest trash talkers were, the 30-year-old couldn’t help but mention Tiafoe.

“Yeah. He trash-talks me all the time, actually. Yeah, Frances. He just talks, like, constantly,” Pegula revealed. Here’s the thing, though. The WTA star isn’t the only one who’s referenced Frances Tiafoe’s questionable and reckless driving skills. His girlfriend, Ayan Broomfield, has, too! Less than a week ago, the former tennis player shared a video where she was sitting in the passenger seat of a car while Tiafoe was driving. She wrote, “POV ur driving with Foe.” But it was her song choice that caught everyone’s attention.

The Canadian added ‘Hell To Da Naw Naw Naw’ by Bishop Bullwinkle, a popular song used to say, “Absolutely not!” in lyrical form. While Jessica Pegula’s claim may have surprised fans, Broomfield essentially confirmed it by uploading this Instagram story. This, however, has also added another layer to Pegula and Tiafoe’s friendship, something their fans enjoy witnessing.

Trash-talking may be something that both of them enjoy doing, but if there’s one thing they like more than that, it’s showing their appreciation for the other. And the ATP star did just that by giving Pegula a lot of credit with a heartwarming message.

Jessica Pegula has helped Frances Tiafoe level up his game

During last year’s United Cup, USA played Poland in the semifinals. Going up against World No.1 Iga Swiatek, Jessica Pegula defeated her, 6-2, 6-2. Watching that amazing result unfold, Tiafoe couldn’t help but praise his compatriot’s game, saying, “Seeing Jessica give an absolute lesson to the World No. 1 is crazy.” In fact, their mixed doubles partnership even helped him improve his game!

In an interview before the United Cup tour last year, Tiafoe revealed how practicing with Pegula helped him. This ATP star said, “You will see a lot of Pegula-Tiafoe practices from this point until whenever she wants to hang it up, and I want to hang it up. She’s definitely risen my level to a whole other level. She’s unbelievable. Happy I got to hit with her.”

Jessica Pegula’s funny confession about Frances Tiafoe not only showcases their healthy bond but offers a quirky side of their friendship. On the other hand, Tiafoe’s compliments for Pegula represented that tennis is a sport that brings people closer and offers new chances for new friendships.
