Williams fans continued her farewell celebration by defeating second seed Anett Kontaveit after a straightforward victory over Danka Kovinic in her final US Open campaign. And as expected, Medvedev defeated Frenchman, Arthur Rindeknech, in straight sets to go to the third round.
Medvedev’s heartfelt tributes to Serena Williams
In a press conference, post second round at the US Open, Medvedev addressed, “Every point you know what’s happening. If it’s silent, the point is to the other girl. If it goes boom, then Serena won the point. It was easy to know the score every time. It’s just amazing. I’m not sure I saw anything like this before. It’s completely her tournament, in my opinion.” The whole place lights up when Serena wins a point. Her fans rejoice the moment that will never be seen again. Even celebrities show up for Serena’s last matches.
However, Carloz Alcaraz tweeted “Impresionante!!!” in addition to a post stating Serena Williams, and he also added a heart-shaped emoji. For the past few days, everyone’s focus is on Serena and her fans want her to have a great retirement.

Medvedev believes that time can be a golden opportunity for Rafael itself. He said, “That’s great. We have Rafa playing here with 22 slams and at this moment it feels like it’s not all the attention on him, which I think it’s great for him that he plays the other nights.”
Rafael Nadal, who is seeking to win a career-high 23rd major title in the US Open, will benefit from the attention currently being paid to Williams. The COVID pandemic and a foot injury prevented the Spaniard from competing in the previous two years, therefore this is his first tournament appearance since 2019.
