For Paula Badosa, falling for Stefanos Tsitsipas was a classic case of ‘right person, wrong time.’ The former World No.2 shocked everyone last week by announcing that she and Tsitsipas had broken up after a year of dating. While Tsitsipas has been doing well career-wise, injuries have bogged down Badosa. “We have our own careers, our own things, and sometimes it’s better to go separate ways,” she told Tennis.com. But then it seemed like the couple might cross paths again.

The Spanish tennis star talked about the split after losing in the first round of the Madrid Open. She stated, “Emotionally, it hasn’t been easy these past days, but I’m a strong person, so I’m trying to deal with everything as much as I can.” However, as the practice schedule for May 13 was released, it seemed that things would get more complicated for the ex-couple in Rome.

Before Badosa lost to Coco Gauff in the Italian Open, an update caught fans’ eyes. Tsitsipas and Badosa were set to practice one after the other, and a fan shared a screenshot of the schedule on X, “Tomorrow on court 6 at 11:00, be like.” Along with the screenshot, they hilariously also posted the Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson meme from Zoolander, in which they crossed paths and stared at each other.

The WTA player was scheduled to practice on Court 6 from 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM. Just after her, for the next slot from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, it was none other than her ex-boyfriend, Tsitsipas. Seeing as they’re both players who compete amongst the very best every week, they were bound to cross paths sometime or the other. And that’s precisely what Badosa alluded to on social media.

While announcing Tsitsidosa’s breakup in a heartfelt message, Badosa revealed how they amicably split, adding, “In the end, it was nothing bad that happened. It’s just life. I know we’ll keep seeing each other on tour, and you never know what will happen in the future.” While there are no hard feelings between them, it will be interesting to see how their friendship evolves beyond the separation, considering the intricacies and emotions involved.

With them increasingly likely to cross paths in Rome, their supporters couldn’t help but express their opinions about the possibilities and what could potentially happen.

Tennis fans enjoy the “reality TV-type” drama surrounding Badosa and Tsitsipas

Tennis enthusiasts flocked to the comment section with their opinions as soon as word leaked that Badosa and Tsitsipas were practicing on the same court. One fan was more interested in the drama surrounding the players’ potential encounter than tennis, expressing a wish out of the blue. They wrote, “I need a reality TV-type confessional from both of them.”

Remember how the ATP Tour’s official account posted a few snippets from Alex de Minaur and Katie Boulter’s visit to a park a few weeks ago? Wasn’t that like a reality show – a peek into their lives as a tennis couple, with both making a few confessions? Well, this fan was sure on to something. And considering the hilarious narrative of how the ATP Tour is just a scripted show, maybe a new Tsitsipas revelation could surface. Who knows?

Considering the couple was together for a year before breaking up, another fan asked what the situation might look like. Along with that, they wrote, “What kind of hitting it’ll be.” Another fan predicted how Badosa and Tsitsipas would interact, highlighting the situation’s potential “drama.” However, given their breakup, it wouldn’t be wrong to say that their meeting would be more tense than usual, adding even more excitement to their on-court exchanges for the drama-loving fans.

As one fan put it, “I’m just here for the handshake,” it was clear that they were particularly interested in the interaction between the tennis players. It’s like the tournament organizers understood what Tsitsidosa fans wanted and are delivering. Will it be a heartwarming crossing of paths, or will it be messy? This fan placed their bet on the latter: “Oh, so Rome is messyyyy,” they wrote.
