Even though the WTA Finals are over, participating tennis players’ and coaches’ will never forget the horrors they had to face during the tournament. 4x GrandSlam champion, Iga Swiatek’s coach Tomasz Wiktorowski recently looked back at the stunning but also terrible WTA Finals in Cancun, almost a month after the competition.

Even though the players had a lot of complaints about the organizers of the tournament, Swiatek conquered all the problems and made her way to the year-end title. But now that the WTA Finals controversy has slowed down, Tomasz Wiktorowski’s statement regarding the place is ready to add a new angle to the whole story.

Iga Swiatek coach looks back to the WTA Finals

Starting from not having proper practice time to having difficult courts and unbelievable weather circumstances, the WTA players had to go through a lot to fight for the year-end championship.

In an interview with a Polish news outlet, Wiktorowskitalked about his preference for having a tournament in Cancun. He said, “From a tourism point of view, I see great potential there. And maybe one day I will go to Mexico to learn more about the history of this civilization.”

While he admires the beauty of the civilization in Mexico, that doesn’t mean that the place is fit for tennis. He added, “However, I hope to never have to fly there again for business or tennis purposes. It was a shame in terms of the decision-making process and the organization of the tournament.”

You must be wondering how bad the conditions must have been for players and coaches to still be talking about it a month after its conclusion. Iga Swiatek’s different stance on the chaos in Cancun

While the tournament was surrounded by negative news regarding the court conditions, the 22-year-old polished tennis player came up with a different perspective. In an interview during the tournament, although she accepted the difficulties being faced by the player, she didn’t stop there. Swiatek had said, “The fact we also didn’t have time to practice on this court, you know. But at the end it doesn’t really matter because all of us have the same court & the same conditions.”

Although it was not comfortable for her to play under those unforgettable circumstances, rather than strongly opposing the organizers, she took a chance and talked about competition. She highlighted that even though the conditions are not good, it’s the same for every player in the tournament, making things even.
