The news of Andy Murray‘s Wimbledon withdrawal has generated a lot of buzz! Not only since it might be his last time competing in his home event, but also because of the disruption it has brought to the tournament schedule. Instead of elevating the women’s world number one, Iga Swiatek, to the spotlight with her first-round match, the reshuffle has left another match scheduled, prompting frustration and confusion among fans and players alike.
Unexpectedly, Jake Draper’s match against Elias Ymer has been pushed up to the main stage, where it was initially planned to feature the top-ranked player in the WTA. Iga Swiatek has been left out of the starting lineup due to scheduling decisions, which has caused controversy and dissatisfaction among tennis players and fans of women’s tennis.
In addition to changing the tournament’s emphasis, the unanticipated change has sparked debate over representation and justice on the esteemed Wimbledon stage. Even after the reorganization of the Wimbledon schedule, Iga Swiatek will now start her campaign on Court 1 against Sofia Kenin, as she looks to establish herself in this important competition.

It won’t be wrong to say that, the current French Open winner, is sure to have an exciting start to her matchup. Just ten days ago, Murray, who intends to retire later this year, had surgery to treat a back condition. The 37-year-old, who won Wimbledon both in 2013 and 2016, was supposed to play Czech Tomas Machac on Tuesday on Center Court.
Murray’s team stated in a heartfelt announcement, “Unfortunately, despite working incredibly hard on his recovery since his operation just over a week ago, Andy has taken the very difficult decision not to play singles this year.”
However, while the tennis world, especially Swiatek’s fans, are sad for the British tennis player’s withdrawal, at the same time they are angry over the British bias that took place when shifting the schedules up and down.
Tennis fans not happy with the sudden shifting change, leaving Iga Swiatek out
After the former world number one ranked tennis player’s withdrawal when the schedule changed, a fan took to his Twitter handle to talk about how another British competition is scheduled, leaving more respect for the women’s world number one. Looking into that, a fan commented, “@Wimbledon the continued disrespect that’s being shown to the world #1 ….NC NC NC.”
However, on the other hand, this is not the first time a tournament is tagged as being biased over its respective players. A fan mentioned how Wimbledon bias is a huge shock, even more than the French Open: “We were all bashing RG for French-bias but we forgot Wimbledon are actually much much worse.”
Following that, a fan even came forward to talk about the French Open bias that took place just a few months ago during the French Open and how, even despite his rank, Hubert Hurkacz suffered on the same path: “Like Roland Garros didn’t do the same? Moutet was playing under the roof, while higher ranked Hubi had to slum it in some parking lot courts.”

Not just for courts, but the French Open had faced criticism for missing out on huge names in favor of the French in the main draw. Names like Dominic Thiem, Emma Raducanu, and Simona Halep missed a direct entry, and while Wimbledon did better with the draw, they’re clearly lacking in assigning courts how they’re deserved.

Another fan reacted to the same, emphasizing the fact that British tennis players playing their matches on the center court is “normal.” At the same time, a fan came forward to share his blank reaction, and wrote, “Wtf,” on behalf of a lot of Polish tennis players’s fans.
