Less than a month ago, Ukrainian star Elina Svitolina accepted Frenchman Gael Monfils’ proposal for marriage. Currently, she is playing at the 2021 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, where she also revealed her engagement story.

Elina and Gael started dating in 2018 and instantly become one of the favorite couples of the fans. They even opened a joint account on Instagram called G.E.M.S life (initials of their name: Gael-Elina-Monfils-Svitolina).

Surprisingly, the duo had called off their relationship post the 2021 Australian Open. However, things turned out well as they are now a soon-to-be-married couple.

Elina Svitolina reveals her engagement story with Gael Monfils

Due to the short break, their engagement news came as a big surprise to the fans. Moreover, the proposal was a surprise even for Elina. However, she revealed that she had realized something was fishy given how nervous Monfils was acting. She said“Yes, I was quite surprised. But I knew he was a bit nervous and that something was going on.”

She added that the moment transpired into something beautiful and memorable and said, “So it was surprising. For sure, it was a really amazing moment for both of us.”

The 10 ATP singles titles winner took Elina on a surprise trip to Switzerland. He then chose the mountain landscape to pour his heart out to his lady love. Moments later, the Frenchman shared a picture on Instagram announcing their engagement.

Svitolina revealed that the place was Switzerland and said, “The photos were taken in Switzerland. He took me for the surprise trip. So, it was very nice and beautiful landscape.”

Which tournament will Svitolina play next?

Elina is presently chasing her first WTA title of 2021 at the WTA Stuttgart Open. She will face former World No. 1 Angelique Kerber to book a place in the quarterfinals.

Also, this is her first clay tournament of the season, and Svitolina will look forward to getting her groove back quickly.

After getting engaged, Elina has won both the matches she played in the Fed Cup playoffs. It remains to be seen if her winning streak continues in the Stuttgart Open 2021.
