The Serbian did not win the match, but perhaps she was the only player this season who received a standing ovation from the crowd for her immaculate performance in the first Slam she ever played. Stevanovic was on her way out when the ATP 2nd seed approached her. Already overwhelmed by the gesture of the crowd, she couldn’t control her tears upon meeting her idol moments after her memorable moment.
Speaking to the Serbian media after the match, Stevanovic became emotional and shed tears. According to a Serbian news website, ‘kurir.rs,’ she said, “Yes, I met him here for the first time after the match – and I cried like rain. I said to myself, where does he find me now, man? I just got out of the match and sat on my bike – and he comes up to say ‘Well done,’ and I’m already half in tears and start: Oh, Nole (in a crying voice).”?
The 225th seed further added, “He he says ‘It’s good, it’s good’ and I say ‘Stop, man, you’re playing a match, these are tears of joy – don’t worry. Joy in the sense that I was carried away by the audience, you play for the stadium to give you a standing ovation – even when you lose.’ I sent kisses, it was really unreal. I felt very nice on the court, down to earth and beautiful.” This respectful gesture of Djoker makes one wonder how did the 28-year-old impressed the legend.
