Ben Navarro's wealth dwarfs Federer and Djokovic—Does money trump legacy in tennis?

Emma Navarro is not just making headlines for her impressive run at the US Open, but there’s something else that sets her apart from her peers—her family’s extraordinary wealth. While most tennis players focus solely on building their fortune from the court, Emma already comes from a background that rivals, and even surpasses, the wealth of tennis giants like Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer. How? Her father, Ben Navarro. So, how rich is Ben Navarro, you ask? Well, we’re talking serious billionaire status here.

Ben Navarro began his career at Goldman Sachs in 1980. But he was poised to make a place for himself in the finance industry and quickly climbed the ladder in his career. He eventually started his own venture, called the Sherman Financial Group in 1998, just three years before Emma was born. Ben also owned a small bank that came to be known as Credit One in 2005, which is now one of the biggest financial services companies in the United States, with over 12 million cardholders.

The ventures of his father helped him gain immense fortune and he currently stands at a net worth of $1.5 billion as of May 2024, per Forbes. The Business tycoon has taken immense interest in her daughter’s tennis career and is one of the sponsors for her besides Yonex and Fila. Interestingly, the net worth of Ben Navarro, which Emma might eventually inherit one day, is far more than that of Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic.

The Swiss Maestro made around $1 Billion in his career through sponsorships and other endorsements. Per Forbes, his net worth in May 2023 was close to $95.1 M. But if The Scotsman is to be believed, the former player has amassed wealth worth $550 M, as of May this year. A majority of his earnings comes from his deal with the sportswear giant Uniqlo which locked him in for 10 years in a deal that would be paying him $30M every year. Meanwhile, the earnings of Nole are even fewer as compared to Navarro’s father’s.

Like Federer, Djokovic also earns mostly from sponsorships and brand deals. As of August this year, he was estimated to be worth around $37.2M, as per a Forbes report. He has also amassed $184 million in career prize money as of August 2024, which is the most ever recorded amount. Coming back to Ben, his love for sports and his daughter have made him immensely interested in the sport and it is probably for this reason that the WTA star could not thank her dad’s contribution enough
