How did the first meeting of the fathers of Steffi Graf and Andre Agassi go?
His son Andre Agassi ousted his father, Emmanuel Agassi, in his book, ‘Open’. He talked about how his father had forced him into hours of training since he was a kid. In an old interview, Emmanuel Agassi agreed that he was harsh and strict with his son. Furthermore, he talked about his first meeting with Steffi Graf’s father, Peter Graf.
He said, “In our first match, he took off his shirt because he too had been a boxer and wanted to face me.” Emmanuel Agassi was a former Olympic boxer. He said, “We had a fight right away. Both aggressive and competitive.” Later on, he narrated how Mr. Graf taunted him by saying, “if Andre had copied Steffi’s cut backhand he would have won more.”
