Serena Williams’ remarkable career is nothing that we are all not aware of. Even though a major part of her success has been her undeniably amazing skill set and hard work, her coaches and the team that supported her played a huge role. One of the coaches who supported Serena Williams for a long duration was Patrick Mouratoglou.

In a recent interview, he shared how coaching players and being a part of the sport has always been his passion and he continually enjoys it and would go to any length to make a mark in the sport and the lives of the players.

Serena Williams’ former coach opens up about his passion for tennis

Patrick was Serena Williams’ coach for almost 10 years. He has witnessed some of the most remarkable wins as she strived towards success in so little time. In a recent interview with Gael Monfils, he was asked about how he manages to spend so many hours coaching players.

Mouratouglou replied with keen insight, “It’s not easy but when you choose your career, you make the expected efforts. I want to do things well. If there are sacrifices to make, so be it.” For the longtime French coach, coaching was a passion that he made the decision to follow through on. Monfils followed up by asking whether this doesn’t make him feel overwhelmed. Again, he answered with a clarity of purpose, that his job is something that he cherishes the most.

Patrick Mouratoglou’s dedication is not just a matter of words. Alongside posting clips of his philosophy and training on Instagram, he has delivered considerably on his players’ potential. Most notable of his success has been with Serena Williams. But while the legends’ legacy is well known, not every ‘Serena fan’ would know one little fact.

Serena won a chunk of her Grand Slams under Patrick’s guidance

In the interview, Patrick mentioned how he had been a mentor to Serena for around 10 years. He stuck with her through all the ups and downs she faced and remained there as she emerged as a force to be reckoned with. In fact, a lesser-known fact about their long-term is that she won 10 out of her 23 Grand Slam titles when she was being coached by Patrick.

This achievement is not only honorable for Serena but also shows what a wonderful coach Patrick is as under his mentorship, Serena rose to ultimate success and won some of her most amazing tournaments. Having a coach like Patrick who weighs his own success with the success of his players is truly commendable.
