Just a few days ago, he brought up a Serena Williams example to transcend the gender line.

Recently, a former French tennis player, Marion Bartoli, opened up about the reason why Nadal chose to pick Williams as an example to talk about equal pay. Look at what the 39-year-old has to say about the Spaniard, knowing his stand against the 23-time Grand Slam champion.

Just a few days ago, while talking about equal pay, the 22-time Grand Slam champion shared a Williams example in which he talked about how just to equate her level of pay, he would have to work “more than himself”. After this, Marion Bartoli analyzed his take and detailed why he came up with such an example, over the equal pay topic.

She stated, “The example of Serena Williams, he takes it because she is better known than him in the United States, that the market there is even more important than in Europe, and that therefore, through the income she generates, she will finally earn more money than him.”

Further, Bartoli also highlighted that, based on Williams’ popularity, Nadal knows that somewhere down the line, Serena Williams is more known than him. Bartoli added, “So, this wage meritocracy because it is “better” than him, not necessarily at the sporting level, but in what it can generate or sell at the image level, it is normal for him that it receives more money.”

The former Pro in detail analyzed the Spaniard example and the reason behind why he bought Williams in comparison to the discussion. However, at the same time, Rafa has always appreciated the 23-time Grand Slam champion and her contribution to the tennis world. A few years ago, he talked about the 42-year-old tennis legend being an inspiration on the court.

Nadal’s take on inspirational Serena Williams

Back in 2022, when the American tennis legend was getting ready to retire at the US Open, the Spaniard paid tribute to her. According to Eurosport, he stated, “She is one of the greatest sports [people] of all time. I feel lucky to share a tour for a long period of time with her.”

Although Nadal and Williams have a close relationship, they have also played matches together and created many tennis moments in which they have supported one another no matter what.
