Can Svitolina's 'purple lucky charm' really help Monfils topple the unstoppable Carlos Alcaraz?

Gael Monfils is gearing up to face Carlos Alcaraz in Cincinnati, determined to give it his all and leave no stone unturned. Adding a touch of intrigue to the matchup, Monfils’ wife, Elina Svitolina, who is also competing in the same event, recently made waves by being a purple charm for her husband for his big match.

After reaching the round of 16, the Ukrainian tennis player wore a purple t-shirt for her interview with the Tennis Channel. Looking into that, when the host asked about the purple connection everywhere, Svitolina gave a lovely answer, connecting to her husband’s support and wanting to turn out a lucky charm for him.

She stated, “It’s a favorite color of Gael, for our wedding he had a purple suit, Mia had a kind of purple-ish dress. Well, it’s his his color. He loves purple because of Wakanda. Yep, so yeah you know, I try to make him happy before the match, so then he brings all the fire to tonight’s match.”

Since 2019, tennis fans have closely followed the blossoming romance between Elina Svitolina and Gael Monfils. The couple, who were married in 2021, has continuously encouraged each other’s tennis careers. Svitolina said that they “try to watch each other’s matches” whenever they can.

The 29-year-old highlighted their efforts to strike a balance between support and their preparation and recuperation, saying, “It’s nice to see each other cheering.” This year’s Roland Garros campaign was more than personal for Svitolina. “We don’t know how many years we’re still gonna be playing both on tour,” the Ukrainian said, as she urged the French audience to continue cheering for Monfils after her performance. “I enjoy watching him, and hopefully, we will see you all tonight with mainstream support; it’s much needed for him,” Svitoliona added.

Remarkably, Svitolina has shared her love and devotion for her puppy previously too. Last February, she posted a photo with the caption, “Our cute troublemaker is 1 year old today.”

Elina’s triumph over Jabeur was fueled by the unwavering support of her husband Monfils, who encouraged her every step of the way, in her quest for Wimbledon glory. What are your thoughts on the tuning between this star couple? Do let us know in the comment section below.
