?Naomi Osaka gives it back to Stefanos Tsitsipas after the latter’s suggestion on women’s tennis
Firstly she couldn?t believe that it was a serious thought from the Greek star.
?Does he want to play nine sets? If he tries to extend mine, I’m going to extend his,”?replied the Japanese player.
When the interviewer informed her that Stefanos made a serious consideration, Naomi gave it a thought and replied,? ?I don’t know. I feel like that would change the structure of tennis. Like people will start doing things differently in the gym and stuff like that.? The Japanese star, however, remained confident that Tsitsipas’ proposal won’t go through.
After efforts from the likes of Billie Jean King, Venus Williams, and others, tennis allowed equal prize money for tournaments, mainly Grand Slams
Going back to Tsitsipas’ comment, the Greek star revealed that if women are getting equal prize money, then they should be playing best-of-five sets, at-least in slams.
?I don?t want to be controversial or anything. There is also the topic of equal pay and everything, women getting equal pay for playing best-of-three, then getting equal pay for playing best-of-five. Maybe they can also play best-of-five, I guess. For Grand Slams, best-of-five, I like it.?
