By now, Patrick Mouratoglou might have earned the tag of being “the king of controversy”. Recently, the tennis legend who is also popular for coaching Serena Williams into some of the many major successes invited some controversy owing to a tweet. The tennis coach has made a sentimental statement that might have been aimed at evoking emotional reactions out of sports enthusiasts in general. However, once his tweet went viral, tennis fans were not going to let him live it down.

Mouratoglou tweeted about his feelings regarding this era in sports. He feels that this is the era of the greats, and people are lucky to witness this. However, tennis enthusiasts on Twitter started finding faults with this tweet in no time. They have attacked him with their tweets that mention the many eras before this and how each one featured legendary players like the names on Mouratoglou’s tweet.

Patrick Mouratoglou got canceled on Twitter over the most heartfelt of messages. It is evident that the French tennis coach did not have the intention of stirring up any controversies over this tweet. However, as most fan comments read, he did not pass the vibe check this time after all.

Mouratoglou’s tweet went like this- “The decade of GOATS : Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, Serena, Lebron, Tiger, Lewis Hamilton….” He then asks his audience, “How crazy is that ?”

Following this, fans have immediately swarmed the tweet with quote tweets and comments.

One fan commented the names of many sports legends in the 1990s and mocked Mouratoglou for talking about one single decade of the GOATs.

The same has been pointed out by another tennis fan who followed suit with his retweet.

Another sports enthusiast has pointed out how Mouratoglou skipped the name of the Lightning Bolt, aka, the fastest man in the world- Usain Bolt.

Also, a fan asks Patrick if he wishes he was one of the GOATs too. They ask this as a mockery, implying he was never one of the names that ruled the scene.

Many have called him out on naming multiple players as the GOAT, saying that it is simply unacceptable. Meanwhile, one fan, in particular, is upset about Mouratoglou taking the name of Serena Williams after the ATP players.

A fan has dug up a historic picture of the GOATs of science including Heisenberg, Einstein, and Marie Curie. They have expressed confusion about what kind of GOATs will be celebrated in the future.

As it happens with most tennis posts, this one too didn’t escape the eyes of the Djokovic fans, who claimed that Federer should be out of the comparison. Djokovic instead, should be named the GOAT, unanimously. Djokovic’s fans already worship the Serbinator as the GOAT, and are loyal to him in every controversy till date.

With all the controversy around this Tweet, Mouratoglou is yet to clear up the fog. However, it is true that we have witnessed an era of the greats. That does not mean that we cannot move on to greater things from here. The road does not just go downhill.
