Coco Gauff has undeniably become one of the fan favorites now. At just 19 years of age, she already has a first grand slam to her name, winning the US Open after a disappointing Wimbledon showdown. Not only this, the young American sensation has surprised the critics with her amazing shots and nail-biting matches.
However, despite the fandom that she has garnished, there are still some loopholes that exist in Coco Gauff’s gameplay. Highlighting the same, Serena Williams‘ former coach hints at a ‘hole’ that Coco Gauff needs to work on as he feels that an increase in age, could create a lot of problems.
Serena Williams’ former coach identifies loopholes in Coco Gauff’s performance
In tennis, Coco Gauff has captured hearts with her remarkable skills and composure on the court. With the form that she is in, the path to greatness seems inevitable. However, even amidst the dazzle of the spotlight, the discerning eye of a coach can spot nuances that demand attention.
Patrick Mouratoglou, known not only for his role in shaping Serena Williams’ legendary career but also for his keen insights into the sport, recently shared his perspective on Gauff’s trajectory. Acknowledging her talent, he mentioned a crucial aspect – a little “hole” in her game, particularly evident in her forehand and serve.
“So when you’re top 10 in the world, you think you’re on your way, but you don’t quite make it for whatever the reasons, a lot of it’s technical, you know, there’s a little hole. The hole gets smaller as you get older, but it’s still a hole, especially when you feel pressure,”?said Patrick Mouratoglou.
Coco, there are no limits to what you can achieve. I believed that when I first met you almost a decade ago, there is no better day to believe it even more. You truly are special. While Gauff’s potential to clinch Grand Slam titles is indisputable, the path to tennis domination, according to Mouratoglou, hinges on addressing these technical issues at a young age.
“There’s a little bit of a speed bump on Coco’s forehand and serve. She’s gonna win grand slams, but to dominate, you know, that has to be addressed,” he further added.
Despite the shortcomings that she needs to fill, Patrick believes that Coco has a lot to offer to the game.
Recently, Patrick Mourtaloglou highlighted what makes Coco Gauff different while giving a rare Roger Federer reference.
Patrick believes Coco Gauff has the same aura as Roger Federer
In his Instagram reel, he talked about Coco Gauff and what makes her so different. There, he mentioned that there are certain players that you enjoy watching as an audience and Coco Gauff is one among them. Not only this he mentioned that just like the ‘aura’?of former tennis greats Roger Federer and Serena Williams, Coco Gauff also has that something special.
Thus, while asserting to be the next big thing in the sport, Serena Williams’ former coach asserts some loopholes that still need to be addressed in order to make Coco a complete player. With her recent US Open success, she has already become a fan favorite and would be looking to grab even more titles.
