Coco Gauff has been garnering praise and a lot more attention worldwide. The American impressed most extraordinary tennis personalities like Roger Federer and Maria Sharapova. Even before her US Open win, Gauff carried huge hopes and expectations. Former tennis legends Chris Evert, John McEnroe, and Jimmy Connors trusted the 19-year-old to uplift American legacy and tennis standards.

A former British player even compared Gauff and Steffi Graf to describe the American’s dominance. The Brit did not stop at it. He went on a praising spree and delivered one of the best that Gauff has ever received. But none of them came close to what Andy Murray‘s former coach claimed about the Grand Slam champion.

The American sensation reached her career-high ranking after winning her first Grand Slam. Tennis pundits even snubbed the then-US No.1, Jessica Pegula, and pinned their hopes on the teenager to end the 6-year home Slam drought. To reach this level, Gauff survived solid opponents like Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka.

Hard work, the right decisions, and confidence paid off for Gauff as she received the highest-ever praise. In a conversation with ‘Tennis Channel,’ former British professional Mark Petchey displayed his concerns for Gauff’s opponents, given her infallible game.

He said, “It’s gonna be up to all the other players on the tour to kinda counter the way that she is moving the ball around, particularly on that forehand side.”

The cherry on top is Petchey, who declared the World No.3 the best athlete ever. He claimed, “I don’t think we’ve seen a better athlete in women’s tennis, and that’s something else. It’s gonna be a problem for a lot of players out there, and plus, the pressure is off.” Murray’s ex-coach snubbed all the WTA players while magnifying Gauff.

The 53-year-old also shared how different tennis has become in the past years. Petchey also declared that Graf was the best, but then Gauff came along and changed everything.

Gauff better than Graf? Murray’s ex-coach says yes.

The tennis commentator and analyst opined that the Golden Girl is the second best, while Gauff is the first best in tennis. He said, “You cannot tell me tennis even when Steffi was around, who I think in my mind is the second brightest female women’s tennis bright athlete of all time. You can’t tell me that the sport was played at the same speed back then that it is now. You know, the sport moves on.”

Petchey stated that the German legend was the best in her era, but Gauff is even better. The former Top-100 player revealed that given the speed at which tennis is being played, Gauff, in her present form, is the best female tennis athlete the tennis community has ever witnessed.

Though the American went off the track after the French Open, she made a career-turning decision and worked with Brad Gilbert. The rest is history, and ‘the job is not done yet.’ Gauff aims to win her country an Olympic medal and is currently savoring her major success while prepping for the next Slam and Paris Olympics.
