Serena Williams changed the idea of how a tennis championship looks—dress and act. Bringing the Serena effect into action, the 42-year-old American tennis player meant a lot to the sport. Having dominated the tennis scene for 27 years straight, she is one of the most significant players the sports world has ever seen, breaking down barriers and inspiring excellence. Recently, a friend of hers from the tennis arena, Andy Murray, opened up about Serena Williams’ impact on the sport.

The 23-time Grand Slam champion retired last year after inspiring the young and upcoming female players to serve best on and off the tennis court. Andy Murray was quite candid when he spoke about Williams’ ‘unbelievable’ career.

Nearly a year after watching the American tennis legend take a step back from the sport, Murray made a huge revelation about her impact as an athlete. After winning the first round of the Swiss Indoors, the three-time Grand Slam champion talked in a post-match press conference about how the 42-year-old tennis legend transcended the sport.

He said, “Serena has been a huge part of all of their careers, that’s how long she dominated for & how long she was on the tour for. It’s obviously sad for tennis that she chose to retire but what an unbelievable career she had, & she did a lot for the sport, but she was a lot bigger than that. She inspired a lot of people across the world.”

Further, the two-time Wimbledon champion shared his belief that Serena’s impact is much bigger than just inspiring many people. Along with that, he also looked back at the response she received during the US Open last year when she was about to retire. The atmosphere during the matches and the energy she carried on the tennis court were just incredible.

However, it is worth noticing that the 36-year-old British tennis player himself is a great admirer of the WTA legend. In addition, he also played doubles with the 42-year-old American at the 2019 Wimbledon. Nevertheless, last year, the British tennis star made a confident claim regarding Williams’ stand in the GOAT debacle.

Murray made a confident GOAT claim about Serena Williams

Formal British number one was one of the few players who have challenged Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic on the tennis court. While everybody chose their favorite GOAT player among the three, he shared his straightforward opinion regarding who is the clear greatest in the tennis arena.

Last year, when a fan asked him on social media about his GOAT pick, he chose a player from the women’s side. Further, Murray confidently claimed that the 23-time Grand Slam champion is the undisputed GOAT in his eyes. While the GOAT debate from the men’s side is different, rather than going for an ATP player, he made an ultimate claim regarding the greatest of all time in tennis.
