Even though Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova retired from tennis a long time ago, they have remained active on social media, often providing their views about the sport.

The legends use their Twitter handles to put forward their thoughts and views on various topics. Yesterday, the 10th of June, they put up a special retirement message for BBC’s Wimbledon presenter and former tennis player Sue Barker, wishing her the best.

In their heyday, both Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova have played against Sue Barker on numerous occasions. While the two were arch-rivals of Sue on the court, they shared a strong friendship once stepped out of it.

A former World No. 4, Sue Barker had a wonderful tennis career. During her career, she won 5 singles titles, one of which being the 1976 French Open. Retiring from tennis in 1984, she took the next step of her career by entering the broadcast industry.

Working with an Australian network for 5 years and British Sky Broadcasting for 3 years, she finally joined BBC in 1993. In 1994, she became the host of BBC’s show ‘Today at Wimbledon’. Working with BBC for 30 years, the 66-year-old recently announced that 2022 Wimbledon will be her last Wimbledon.

Being a prominent entity in tennis, especially Wimbledon, Barker’s retirement news invited loads of wishes from around the world. Sharing the news of Barker’s retirement, Martina Navratilova wrote, “Well done Sue- what an amazing career- congrats and enjoy your ?retirement?:), Xoxox”

While Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova’s on-court rivalry is a major part of the sport’s history, the two continue to share a strong bond. We can see the example of that in their regular social media interactions. Learning about Barker’s retirement, Evert took to her Twitter handle, retweeting Navratilova’s tweet.

Evert wrote, “Agree! Sue is the best! At everything? hosting Wimbledon in an intelligent and natural way, having a stellar tennis career, and being a great friend to many (of us) ?big shoes to fill!! BBC Tennis.”

Apart from Navratilova and Evert, Andy Murray put up an emotional post for the legendary presenter. Taking to his Instagram handle, Murray uploaded a story, captioning it ?Gutted with this news. Absolutely love Sue.?
