Serena Williams‘ dominance has casted a shadow over every corner of American tennis. But in reality, has the 23-time Grand Slam champion been a part of every tennis commodity that worked during her era? Recently, another American, Andy Roddick, made a huge revelation regarding how the USTA put up the wrong facts and figures just to drag their name up in the tennis arena.

Not only that, the major champion also picked up a clear Venus and Serena Williams example to explain how things were not how they looked in the United States Tennis Association. Roddick shared a harsh reality revolving around the same organization that he has been apart from.

Recently, in one of the latest episodes of Served with Andy Roddick, the 41-year-old American tennis player opened up about how, when he was a junior player, he faced a lot of difficulty. That was in such a way that even though he was doing great on his own, he was approached when he became the number one junior, as the USTA just wanted his name.

Along with that, he also highlighted how they even used the Williams sisters names, but they were never a part of any of the programs that were given out by the Associates during their active tennis days. While he was talking about the prospectus of the organization, he openly discussed the errors and said, “What it also overlooks completely is every, like Serena was winning Grand Slam at an age where she was eligible, to play every junior Grand Slams.”

Furthermore, he criticized USTA for attributing the success of current professional tennis players to programs that Serena and Venus Williams weren’t involved in.

“So, you’re little, like Serena was winning Grand Slam in 1999, carved out her win; majors, with by the way, she was not involved in your programs at all, and Venus wasn’t involved in your programs at all, zero. So you are carving out her pro successes, to make a very deceiving claim, to success and then say this is why we have so many good pros today,” 2007 Davis Cup champion stated.

Apparently, in the same podcast, he also openly exposed the disrespect to the flag that the organization gave by recalling an unforgettable experience from the past.

Roddick’s looks back to a horrifying USTA incident

In the same podcast, he also highlighted that even though he was doing great, the USTA took credit for all the players, with very low maintenance help. He stated, “For a long time it felt like the USTA was happy to… they wanted to give credit to the logo and not the flag. They say we help players. How do you help players? We go and watch all the matches. I don’t know how that helps me.”

Along with that, he also highlighted that at the age of 17, he had to make the huge decision of leaving the coach, who was directly responsible for his ascent, just to work with someone under their umbrella. While he walked his own path, the organization, rather than helping players, created its own environment to bring names into the program.
