Andy Roddick finally spoke about the capacity in which he coaches Jessica Pegula, who ended her 2023 season as WTA’s number five. Despite impressing many, her wish to win a Grand Slam didn’t materialize. In this context, Pegula started looking for a permanent coach fuelling rumors about Andy Roddick being a great fit for the role.

Pegula struggled quite a lot during her WTA 2023 finals at Cancun and withdrew from the Abu Dhabi Open due to a neck injury. On Tennis Channel’s live broadcast, experts Jimmy Arias and Mark Petchy discussed her situation, with no permanent coach seemingly in sight. Now, on a recent podcast, Roddick has given his take on the rumors.

The recent episode of Served titled A New Spin on Tennis brought former tennis legend, Andy Roddick. Host Jon Wertheim quipped Roddick about the Pegula situation. Wertheim further pushed the envelope by asking Roddick about expanding his coaching sphere.

In his response, Roddick said, “I have no consultancy deal with Coco Gauff. I am a phone call away if we need to pick up rain about anything. Also, I need a premise for everything are, preface everything that I am gonna say right now with that I am never ever gonna be the one who talks first about any conversations that I have with the given player.”

I think all I did with Jess and all I have done we will continue, we will just ask questions that she knows the answers to already. Right, I don’t think she needs anyone to dictate to her what needs to happen right now, she’s three in the world – four in the world right now. So I think she is excited about being curious about different parts of her game.”

The American concluded by saying, “It is fun for me since I am a tennis nerd. So learning what someone is looking for in the game at the top level and kinda giving you just two cents I said listen just because it’s my opinion doesn’t mean it’s right. But hopefully, it gives something to think about. So we hit a couple of times last week.”

Andy Roddick’s statements expressed that he is currently not Jessica Pegula’s coach. However, he raised his consultancy and support for America’s rising star to help her in the journey of professional tennis.
