Jessica Pegula's US Open run—Is she the next big thing in American tennis?

It’s been years since Andy Roddick retired from professional tennis. However, the American star still finds himself embroiled in controversies now and then. Earlier today Roddick had a verbal altercation with a Novak Djokovic fan on X, as the fan questioned him about what he did for the sport after his retirement. To that, the former US Open champion gave a detailed answer. But amidst all the chaos, Roddick didn’t miss the chance to celebrate Jessica Pegula’s feat at the US Open. Finally, after years of struggle in tennis, Pegula made it to the semifinals of a Grand Slam. And an “emotional” Roddick rallies behind her!

Pegula started her quest for Grand Slam back in 2015 at the US Open. However, the American tennis star failed to get past the quarterfinals stage for 9 years. And finally, she broke the jinx at the US Open 2024, by defeating the World No.1 Iga Swiatek in straight sets, as she became the 4th American tennis star to qualify for the semifinals this year, joining Emma Navarro, Taylor Fritz, and Frances Tiafoe. A proud moment for the whole of America, and Roddick couldn’t help but get emotional over Pegula’s win.

The American legend took to X to congratulate Pegula on her hard-earned win. In response to his Podcast Account on X, which posted Pegula’s picture, Roddick wrote “This made me so happy for Jess. Legit emotional.”

Built a media company @Served_Podcast, a real estate company. Didn’t have much control over where I was born but am full of gratitude and understand I have been lucky. Cheers”
