“I’m still trying to catch up to everything that’s happening. I’m in the finals. Wooohooo!” said a jubilant Madison Keys after entering her maiden Australian Open final. The World No.10 beat title favorite Iga Swiatek in a marathon semifinal encounter that went into a super tie-break. But Keys was the one to hold her nerves till the end as she edged out the Pole with a score line of 5-7, 6-1, 7-6(8). And now, it’s all about showcasing the best that she’s got in Saturday’s to-be-epic showdown against Aryna Sabalenka. But even before that, her compatriots have already begun boosting her confidence!
Following Keys’ historic victory over Swiatek, Coco Gauff couldn’t resist her emotions and took to Instagram to extend her support. The World No.3 and 2024 WTA Finals winner shared a story with the message “goo @madisonkeys” showing the American flag emoji. Clearly, she was proud of Keys’ accomplishment and wanted her to create history in Australia this time. The cheers came despite the fact that Gauff herself couldn’t clinch ultimate victory, having been eliminated in the quarterfinal against Paula Badosa earlier this week.
Meanwhile, another compatriot and World No.11 Danielle Collins also boosted Keys’ spirits. In an IG story, she simply wrote “Let’s go” with a heart emoji alongside the US flag. Interestingly, Collins’ journey at the 2025 Australian Open came to an end against none other than Keys. The latter beat her in the third round last week. But Collins too must be feeling happy, now that her teammate is representing the country in a Slam final. And she’s not the only one.

There’s another person who’s equally proud and ecstatic for Keys to be in the title clash! ATP pro and 22-year-old youngster Ben Shelton also hyped up the World No.10 after her momentous semifinal win. He simply wrote “Unreal @madisonkeys” in an Instagram story. Shelton himself is in the semis where he’s going to face World No.1 Jannik Sinner, later today.
As her compatriots are celebrating her entry in the Melbourne Major’s title clash, Keys is excited too! In fact, she couldn’t believe initially that she was through to the last hurdle. So what did she say about her victory?

After snatching the match from Iga Swiatek in a hair-splitting tie-break, Madison Keys was left speechless. Her emotions reached another dimension and it can be understood by her reaction given on the courtside camera. “Oh my god” she wrote on its lens. But she had more to say as well!
Explaining the situation before the victory, fighting an intense battle with Swiatek, she said, “It was so up and down, and there were so many big points and break point chances that neither one of us got” reported WTA’s official website on Thursday. The semifinal victory was also her 11th straight win this season. Earlier this month, she dominated at the Adelaide International, which she won as well.
Continuing further she added, “I feel like I blacked out at some point and I was just out there running around. Just to be able to stay in it, keep fighting, and then a 10-point tiebreak for an extra-dramatic finish.” She also revealed that “Even though I lost the first set, I felt like I was playing some better tennis at the end of it” After losing out on the opening set, she came back strongly. “To be able to kind of run with that second set and really just settle, that was really nice.”

On Saturday, Keys will have a heavy task handling Aryna Sabalenka’s powerful serves and athleticism. The Belarusian and three-time Slam winner has been the AO queen in past two seasons. She’s looking to make it three in a row, after Martina Hingis did it 26 years ago between 1997 and 1999. The American will have to put her best foot forward in order to take down the Tiger. What’s your prediction for the final at the Rod Laver Arena? Who will lift that coveted trophy on January 25? Let us know in the comments.
