Not so long ago, tennis legend Andy Murray stepped up to talk about the scarcity of female coaches across both the men’s and women’s tours. After his comments went public, several players, both retired and active, appreciated him for taking a stand for equality in sports.

One of the people who applauded Andy Murray for his take was Serena Williams’ ex-coach, Rennae Stubbs. She was extremely happy about the fact that someone finally talked about this problem. In a response of her own, Stubbs also expressed her own disappointment with the pressing issue. However, following Stubbs’ comment, a tennis fan joined the conversation and kickstarted a short-lived yet ill-tempered exchange.

According to Rennae Stubbs, the lack of female coaches on tour boils down to the players’ choices. Stubbs stressed that players have to take “the leap of faith” when it comes to hiring effective female coaches.

After this comment, one of the Twitter users commented on Stubbs’ response. He said, “Lol why lie? If there are great female coaches, why don’t atp and wta players hire them?”

Naturally, this insinuation triggered Stubbs, and she responded, “Oh dude. I don’t have time to explain this to u.” The conversation did not end there.

The fan continued to provoke Stubbs and added, “Lol because you can’t”. This was where Stubbs’ patience snapped. It had already been worn thin by the fan at this point.

Stubbs’ response was an explosive one, as she put the fan in his place. “No dude, because you’re a man who thinks he knows everything and no matter what is said to u, you’re always going to think u know more than me. So enjoy your day.”
