Team USA finished at the third position in the overall medal tally of wrestling at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. The likes of Tamyra Mensah-Stock Part, David Taylor, and Gable Steveson clinched gold for the nation at the mega-quadrennial games. In total, the wrestling team clinched 9 medals; 3 gold, 2 silver, and 4 bronze.
After a successful campaign at the Tokyo games, wrestlers will now compete in Oslo World Championships. Around 30 medal-winning wrestlers from Tokyo Olympics 2020 will compete at the championships.

The Oslo World Championships will take place in Norway from 2nd to 10th October. Interestingly, 30 fresh Olympic medalists from Tokyo Olympics 2020 will wrestle against each other again in an intense battle. Because of COVID-19 and postponements, the Olympics and World Championships are being held in the same year for the first time.
Out of three Olympic gold medalists from Team USA, two will be competing. Tamyra Mensah-Stock and David Taylor have accepted the invite, but Gable Steveson has declined to compete.

At the Tokyo Olympics 2020, Japan topped the medal tally with 7 medals (5 golds) followed by ROC with 8 medals (4 golds). Returning to the world championship is Russia’s wrestling star Abdulrashid Sadulaev. Cuba’s Luis Orta Sanchez (CUB), Iran’s Mohammedreza Geraei, and Russia’s Musa Evloev.

Notably, almost all the Olympic wrestling medalists will again compete against each other. Hence, it will be a golden opportunity for Olympic champions to claim their World championship title in the same year. Whereas the one who lost the title in the Olympics will have a chance to redeem themselves.
