Xavier’s losing streak has now reached six games. Adding to their worries, they lost one of their key players due to injury, which is a cause for concern for the team’s already deteriorating form.

Xavier’s women’s basketball team lately suffered a defeat against Miami (Ohio) at Millett Hall. The game ended with a score of 58-57 in overtime. Throughout the game, there were four lead changes and six ties.

With 3:10 remaining in overtime, Xavier led by three points (57–54), but the RedHawks completed the game with four consecutive points, keeping Xavier scoreless for the duration. Miami won their first game of the season after Júlia Garcia Roig’s game-tying three-point effort for the Musketeers was unsuccessful with time running down.

With eight of her 21 shots, Mackayla Scarlett scored a game-high 22 points. In addition, she recorded a career-high eight assists, four steals, and four rebounds. The senior guard added a career-high five 3-pointers to her total. She has already scored 20 points in two games this year. But unfortunately, she had to go out of the field due to a critical sprain in the ankle during overtime of the game. She was helped back to the locker room.

Looking at the seriousness of the injury, the return of Scarlett is highly unlikely, as the future of the team hangs in the air.

The proximity of Mackayala Scarlett to Xavier

During the Saturday afternoon game, Mackayla Scarlett scored 25 points, her career-high, but the Musketeers were unable to secure a victory against Bowling Green. The final score was 73-64, in favor of the Falcons. With this win, the Falcons improve to a 2-1 record, while the Musketeers still remain winless, holding a 0-4 overall score.

Last season, the leading player of the team was ranked 13th in the BIG EAST for 3-point field goals made per game, with an average of 2.5 assists per game, and fifth in the BIG EAST for free-throw percentage, scoring 87 out of 103 attempts at 84.5%.

Additionally, she played in 26 games, starting 24 of them, for an average of 27.6 minutes per game. She scored in double figures in 14 games, including six out of seven Musketeer games. Her injury has made matters further miserable for Musketeers.
