Tom Dunmore, the VP of Marketing of Major League Cricket(MLC) in the USA wants the new generation to be akin to cricket. The money factor for the MLC is mammoth- $50 already spent with more than $130 due to be spent for the sport’s mega event. Their marketing has been excellent, roping in leading cricketers worldwide. The ensemble cricket cast includes- Rashid Khan, Wanindu Hasaranga, Kagiso Rabada, Mitchell Marsh, and Haris Rauf amongst others. These stalwarts are proven matchwinners and cherished by scores of cricket fans.

In the USA, the existing sports- NFL (football) have struck a chord with the fans. The champion players such as Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, and Patrick Mahomes amongst others are viewer’s favorites here. Children as young as two years old grow up with their idols and follow them as they get older. With the Netflix series- Quarterback covering the NFL’s intricacies based on its loved personalities, the masses are bound to follow the sport.

Reasons the MLC might just excel in the US

With NFL, fans are well-versed and research their teams, players, transfers, and other aspects. Tom Dunmore is hopeful that the public will welcome cricket in their lives too. He expressed his optimism saying “What we’re doing here is really transforming the landscape of the sport and giving it a platform to succeed”. The prospective investors for the MLC include Microsoft CEO, Satya Nadella, ex-Facebook and Dropbox founder Aditya Aggarwal, and Subrah Iyar Webex co-founder erc. With a grand list of investors, MLC’s chances seem to be great.

Moreover, with the rise of South-East Asian immigrants in the country, MLC might prosper. It brings forth a new era of sports. The collaboration of four major Indian Premier League teams in the MLC gives a platform for players to boost local and international talents.

The rise of MLC will usher American fans into a new landscape. In Dunmore’s words- “It’s not just grafting on the franchise structure and bringing in players, it’s the whole foundation of the sport. Stadium, practice facilities, coaches, the expertise in groundskeeping, preparing a wicket properly, all those things that the USA hasn’t had a rich tradition of in recent years because it is difficult.”

Maybe this new chapter will see kids holding more cricket bats than NFL balls, running into the fields emulating their T20 stars.
