The Iowa Hawkeyes under Lisa Bluder gave the entire basketball world some memorable moments in the last two years. Although Caitlin Clark’s name echoed through the arenas, there were many like Kate Martin and Gabbie Marshall, who brilliantly supported her efforts. However, while two of them have moved on to their professional careers, one did not. Hence, appreciating what the rest of the crew has done for her, Marshall’s ways of saying goodbye brought tears to the Fever rookie.

Caitlin Clark commented on Marshall’s post, “I love you forever and always. My girl for life.” The NCAA’s all-time leading scorer also shared the post as a story with her 2.3 million Instagram followers. Clark captioned her story, “forever proud of you @gabbie.marshall” followed by a black heart. The post too, was quite touching as the No. 24 of Iowa thanked everyone for the last five years of her life as a Hawkeye.

A part of her caption read, “As I am nearing my last month in Iowa City ready to take on the next chapter of my life, I have had lots of time to reflect on all the incredible memories I have made, opportunities I have been given, people I have met, and friendships that will last forever because of the game of basketball.” She ended the post by saying, Once a Hawk, always a Hawk💛🤞🏽”

A lot has changed in the Hawkeyes roster this year. Clark and Kate Martin have transferred to the WNBA, Lisa Bluder has retired, and Jan Jensen has been promoted to the head coach position. Now, Marshall, after completing her five years at the university, will move on to the next chapter of her life. But one thing has stayed still. That is, the relationships they have formed.

How are the former teammates of Caitlin Clark reacting to Marshall’s post?

Saying goodbyes is never easy. And although Marshall did not exactly put it in those words, her people have understood the meaning behind it all. Kate Martin, now an Aces rookie, commented, “Love you boozus.” Other ladies who will continue to wear the black and gold jersey also had a few words to add. Hannah Stuelke, who made quite an impression in her junior and sophomore years as the one who could finish Caitlin Clark’s passes into buckets, also commented. She wrote, “Alright I didn’t want to cry today… I love you so much Gab.”

The previous roster of the Hawkeyes was truly unique. They understood each other, loved each other, and supported each other. Even after multiple changes to the crew, hopefully, the culture will carry on. With Caitlin Clark and Kate Martin both focusing on the WNBA season now, let us see what Gabbie Marshall’s future has in it.
