The crown jewel of Kelsey Plum’s incredible college career was the NCAA women’s all-time scoring record. Plum broke the record in an awe-inspiring way, scoring fifty-seven points against Utah to take home the title. The former first overall pick dominated throughout her college career and drew attention from some of the biggest names in basketball. Sue Bird, one of the greatest players of all time, pointed out a special coincidence about Plum’s record-breaking game.

On A Touch More with Sue Bird & Megan Rapinoe, the two show hosts had a chat about the college legend, revealing that Megan Rapinoe was actually in the building during the historic game. “It was crazy,” said the former soccer player.

She further added, “I had gone with a couple of friends not expecting her to break the record, obviously… Once the game started going, it was like ‘Oh, she’s going for it’. One of those beautiful, inevitable moments and feelings that you have.”

Sue Bird goes on to talk about Plum’s mentality and the way she chose the road not traveled. “A big part of Plum’s legacy is that she chose the University of Washington. She could have gone to programs that had a little bit more of a legacy in terms of success, but she wanted to build.” And build, she did. Plum led the Huskies to a Final Four appearance for the first time in the program’s history.

Bird and Rapinoe went on to praise the WNBA star, talking about how confident Plum is, and how much self-belief she carries. To hear praise like this coming from one of the greatest basketball players of all time is a big deal.

Kelsey Plum is enjoying a successful career in the WNBA and is a certified college legend. The University of Washington retired her jersey recently, and for good reason. But on the other side of the spectrum, she is also leaving things. Reportedly, she was also meant to participate in Unrivaled, but dropped out before the league started.

Why is Kelsey Plum not lacing up for the Unrivaled league?

Aces Star Kelsey Plum was all-set to play in the inaugural season of Unrivaled, but backed out last second. The five-foot-eight point guard was supposed to appear for the Laces BC in the new 3×3 basketball league founded by Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier. However, in an unexpected move, she withdrew from the tournament.

“I’ve decided not to take part in the inaugural season of Unrivaled in order to take some more time for myself this off-season,” Plum said on her Instagram story. “I appreciate the league being so understanding and accommodating. I wish the league and all of the players nothing but the best and I’m excited to watch!”

Kelsey Plum is a seasoned 3×3 veteran! She won a gold medal in the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, and the Laces were very excited to have her. Unrivaled’s rules are slightly different than FIBA, but the pace is still rapid! Plum would have dominated, and we hope to see her rule the court next season. She’s a legend, truly.
