Is a full Hawkeyes reunion overdue, or should they focus on their individual paths?

Basketball brought them together only to separate them from each other. Former Iowa Hawkeyes Caitlin Clark, Kate Martin, and Gabbie Marshall have found their own paths in life since graduating in 2024. While Marshall decided to opt for graduate school and retired from the sport, Kate Martin played her rookie WNBA season with the Las Vegas Aces. And enough said about Caitlin Clark, who just missed a reunion.

Martin’s season is over after the Aces exited the playoffs in the semifinals. She took some time off along with Marshall to visit an old friend – Jada Gyamfi! The Iowa junior received a pleasant surprise when her former teammates showed up at her apartment unannounced, moving her to tears. Marshall posted a TikTok that chronicled her airport journey, then meeting up with Martin, and eventually outside Gyamfi’s door.

“You think she’s gonna cry?” the Aces player asks Marshall, who agrees with a smile. And the Iowa junior does cry as she opens her door to receive her surprise visitors. The TikTok ends with a Gyamfi doing a little dance move, proving that the reunion was successful! The only missing piece was Caitlin Clark, who is likely preparing for her major golf Pro-Am event in November.

While Gyamfi still plays and is comparatively a newer addition to the Hawkeyes, the trio of Martin, Clark, and Marshall spent their NCAA careers together. They were instrumental in taking Iowa to two championship game appearances in 2023 and 2024, even if they didn’t end up winning. And they clearly remain friends even after graduating!

Each of the three has congratulated the other two as life takes them forward.

From Caitlin Clark winning ROTY to Marshall’s Ruler of the Jungle, there are Hawkeye celebrations all around

Have an interesting take?

Caitlin Clark winning Rookie of the Year was a no-brainer for many. Although her Indiana Fever exited the playoffs in the first round, it was a sign of good beginnings. But that’s not to say that she has forgotten her NCAA roots or her friends. When CC won the ROTY award, Gabbie Marshall and Kate Martin had the exact same response, and neither was surprised.

Both reposted an Instagram post from Bleacher Report that had a picture of Clark with her arms spread, with the overlaid text implying what everyone thought about the Fever rookie. “Was there ever any doubt?” Indeed, there wasn’t, and both her friends agreed.

Similarly, when Marshall received an honor only 35 individuals have ever received, Clark and Martin were there to congratulate her. Becoming the “Ruler of the Jungle” for the Cincinnati Bengals pregame tradition, Clark reposted on her story with the caption, “Spirit animal @Gabbie Marshall Go Chiefs.” Meanwhile, Martin wrote, “This is amazing” followed by a laughing emoji and a white heart.

These basketball friends have each gone their separate ways, and while CC and Martin have met each other on the court in different jerseys now, it might be time for a full-blown reunion for the Hawkeyes! The NCAA season is just around the corner.
