The once bestie duo of Angel Reese and Flau’jae Johnson doesn’t seem as tight as they used to be. While the exact reason isn’t clear yet, speculation is everywhere. What we do know is that these two, who couldn’t stop talking about or to each other, now seem to get… well, let’s just say a bit awkward when one’s name comes up. And that’s exactly what happened recently during the recent episode of Reese’s “Unapologetically Angel.”

Angel, known for her bold opinions on just about everything, stayed noticeably quiet when her guest, Pretty Vee, brought up Flau’jae. Instead of engaging, Reese dodged the conversation, attempting to redirect it entirely. The vibe was totally awkward.

It all started when Pretty Vee, clearly a fan of “Big 4.” praised her endlessly. “The last time I watched college basketball was you and Flau’jae,” Vee gushed, adding, “I still support her; that’s my girl.” But Reese? Crickets. She didn’t even say Johnson’s name and instead turned the focus to getting Pretty Vee back into the basketball scene, but only through the WNBA.

“We got to get you to keep up with it with it again in WNBA,” she said. The Chicago Shy star asked, “What more would you want to see from the WNBA or college?” Pretty Vee replied, “Just continue to have unity. I’m a girl’s girl; I’m attracted to talent. So when I see that, I’m like, ‘Let’s go, Flau’jae!’” Yet, Reese kept steering away, and her body language seemed to betray some unease.

For those who’ve followed their journey, this shift is shocking. The two were an iconic duo, both on and off the court, leading LSU to a national title and even besting Caitlin Clark’s Iowa squad. Angel might have been the face of the team, but Johnson was right there beside her, playing her part. So, what changed?

The Chi-Town Barbie addressed the shift herself in that episode of “Unapologetically Angel.” “We aren’t as close as we used to be. There’s no hard feelings or anything, but we aren’t as close,” she admitted. Meanwhile, Johnson echoed similar sentiments, saying, “I still support her 1000 percent. I was proud of her.” Yet, she acknowledged that their bond isn’t the same anymore.

Since then, they haven’t spoken about each other much. Although Reese’s ex-LSU mates do mention her, the rapper-cum-hooper doesn’t. Speculation about the cause of their rift was once a heating Internet topic. Some point to the friction that arose when their mothers had a heated exchange on social media.

Others believe the distance created by Reese entering the WNBA while Johnson stayed in college might have been too much to overcome.

Whatever the reason, it’s clear that “just like that” doesn’t quite explain this falling-out. However, despite the tension, both are thriving in their own ways.

Angel Reese lands Vogue cover while Flau’jae Johnson is in the midseason top 25 watchlist

Angel Reese is living the dream. She graced the Winter 2025 cover of Vogue alongside Olympic sprinter Gabby Thomas. “It’s always been both basketball and fashion,” the hooper shared, revealing how she inherited her passion for style from her mom. Reese’s focus is now split between preparing for her second WNBA season and excelling in the Unrivaled league.

Although her debut season was cut short due to injury, she’s determined to make an even bigger impact in 2025. Off the court, she dreams of walking the runway one day.

Big 4’s numbers speak volumes.  She’s averaging 19.7 points per game, ranking fifth in the SEC, and has scored in double digits for 26 straight games. S, while Angel Reese and Flau’jae continue to excel in their own paths, one can’t help but wonder: will these two ever rekindle the bond they once shared? Or will their rift get deeper?
