Caitlin Clark and A'ja Wilson in a Netflix show—Is this the boost women's sports need?

Receiver! Receiver! Receiver? That’s the name on the lips of every NFL fan. The series which premiered on Wednesday had a lot of fans watching the 8-part docuseries. The season chronicles the life of 5 NFL stars to bring another perspective to the game. While the quarterbacks have attracted a lot of attention, the series sheds light on the football athletes who receive the pass. Hence, the name.

On the occasion of its premier NFL star George Kittle got into a chat with the media along with his wife Claire Kittle to name a few popular WNBA stars who could be selected for the show if it was filmed on the league’s athletes.

“Caitlin Clark, obviously,” Claire Kittle opined. Her answer mattered because she played ball during her college but had to stop due to hurting knees. “Caitlin… A’ja with the Las Vegas Aces. You can go same team as they did with me and Deebo,” George Kittle named the next. Both Deebo and George ply their trade for the San Francisco 49ers and have been featured in the docuseries. Hence, he gave Mrs. Kittle an option to choose another player from the Las Vegas Aces.

However, Claire picked Diana Taurasi enunciating that “she was my girl growing up.” Next, he picked Brittney Griner enumerating “Like I want a tall person who swats people every time.” The clip of the same was posted on the Yahoo Sports official handle on X.

While Clark has been the go-getter and is likely to also win the Rookie of the Year, Wilson has topped the offensive board with 26.9 points per game this season. As for Taurasi, she has been playing since 2004 and has also been selected for this year’s Team USA for the Paris Olympics. Hence, she could have been the inspiration for Claire growing up. Whereas George Kittle took Griner’s name who is 6 feet 9 inches tall and is known for using it to her advantage. As for the documentary, it is a soothing retreat for the football fans.

Receiver follows the season of 5 exceptional receivers throughout the 2023-24 NFL season. It stars names such as Davante Adams, Justin Jefferson, George Kittle, Deebo Samuel, and Amon-Ra St. Brown. It also includes interviews with the athletes and follows their trajectory through the season. Featuring some of the frustrations, expectations, and the unknown side of football, the show is a hit among fans.

The series culminates in the playoff run when St. Brown and the Lions ply their trade in the NFC Conference Championship, while Samuel and Kittle compete at the Super Bowl LVIII.

Perhaps, now that Kittle has embraced the idea of having a similar show for the WNBA, producers will take a hint and pitch one to Netflix. And hopefully, fans will soon realize their dream when they see the ‘behind the curtain-life’ of four WNBA stars.
