Can Team USA handle the pressure and secure their eighth straight Olympic gold? What do you think?

A formidable-looking USA Women’s basketball team will begin their Olympics campaign soon. Having won the gold medal on the previous seven occasions, the roster will enter the spectacle as favorites to continue that streak. However, this also brings the burden of expectations on the group of players chosen to be the flag bearers. Perhaps the most decorated of them in the league at the moment–A’ja Wilson expanded on this fact recently.

The 2023 WNBA Finals MVP accompanied fellow NBA2K cover athlete Jason Tatum on the ThreeFourTwo Production and NBA2K special collaboration episode. Having a range of conversations with the special guest host Sue Bird, the 2020 Olympic gold medal winner reflected on the pressure that the roster faces this time around. “We’re going for 8 straight. So, the nerves are kinda there. You just don’t want to be that team,” Wilson said on the podcast.

Since 1996, the USA women’s basketball team has brought home the gold in every Olympics. In addition to this, they have a 70–3 record in the event without a single loss since 1992. On top of that, they are on level terms with the U.S. men’s basketball team’s tally for the most Olympic team victories in all Olympic sports on the trot.

A’ja Wilson further added that the team they have for the Olympics is great. But she expanded on that perspective a little more. She said, “It’s just glooming over. So, that’s the biggest thing. Obviously, it’s just the pressure for us. But we’re going for 8 and you just don’t wanna be that team.”

With that team, she means the ones who will be remembered for ruining the legendary streak of victories. In the meantime, Wilson’s South Carolina connections have expressed their pride recently. Anyhow, it’s not because of her Olympic selection.

Dawn Staley hails A’ja Wilson

Being on the cover of the 2k25 WNBA edition has many gushing over the Aces kingpin A’ja Wilson. Among the ones whose reactions matter for the 6× WNBA All-Star is her Gamecocks mentor Dawn Staley. The 54-year-old extended a very special message for her former protege on X soon after the news broke out.
