The controversial comments of a sports scribe are backfiring big time as many are coming forward to vouch for the WNBA players’ game and gumption. Among them is a popular point guard of the Philadelphia 76ers. The man at the center of the storm is Clay Travis who lately questioned the WNBA hype and belittled the stature of its athletes. But now, the analyst is facing some reality check.

The athletic capabilities of the WNBA in comparison to their male counterparts have always been a point of debate. For some, the woman athletes can’t stand the physicality of the NBA players. However, time and again the women stars have proved that they don’t fall behind when it comes to matching their strength with men. But the recent diatribe of an analyst added a new twist to this tale. He bet against the motion and stirred a hornet’s nest.

In his ‘OUTKICK’ talk show, a familiar face in the sporting world Clay Travis made a controversial statement a while ago: “I’ve said this for a long time and it is 100% true. A good state championship caliber High School boys team would smoke the best team in the WNBA.” Following this, he repeated the same sentence once again. The sports journalist further added, “Give me a team from California, New York, Texas or Florida. I would bet my entire savings on the bank.”

Clay’s comment has received a lot of backlash and triggered a raging response of many NBA stars.

The No. 22 of the Philadelphia 76ers Patrick Beverley had his take on the comment made by Clay Travis. He said, “The man has to be on drugs. I don’t give a fu*k what he said. WNBA players are way more physical than men. I went through a Minnesota Lynx while I was chasing Aerial Powers. They hit you more, they screen hard. It’s a physical a** game, it’s crazy. These WNBA girls are skilled.”

Aerial was the 5th overall pick in the 2016 draft by the Dallas Wings. She made it to the WNBA All-Rookie Team in her rookie season. In 2018, she was transferred to the Washington Mystics as an exchange for Tayler Hill. She helped the Mystics reach their first-ever WNBA Finals. Unfortunately, they came up short against the Seattle Storm.

Aerial Powers upgraded her game in the next season to another level. Apparently, she had the best season of her career and led the Mystics to their second consecutive Finals. In the Finals series, the Mystics beat the Connecticut Suns giving Aerial her first WNBA championships. Further, in 2021 she made a move to the Minnesota Lynx.
