The WNBA is currently on the rise and is gaining a lot of popularity. Due to that, there are many WNBA players as well who are getting very famous. So for some particular players, people come for live matches to see them play. Players like A’ja Wilson, Angel Reese, etc. are driving fans to watch their games. However, recently, during a heated debate about equal pay, sports analyst Clay Travis gave the Las Vegas Aces an open challenge for $1 million. The challenge he proposed was that the WNBA team face a state-champion high school boys’ team of his choice. And if they emerge victorious, he will reward the team with $1 million.

Clay Travis sees a situation in which the Aces win and collect his million-dollar reward. However, earlier the case was that if the boys’ team won, the Aces must reward the young champs. But recently, he took to social media to even remove that burden from them.

He wrote a tweet in which he expressed that the WNBA team has to no longer pay the boy’s team if they lose. And on the flip side, if they manage to win, they will still take home the $1 million as a reward from his side.

Travis claims this encounter would outperform any of the WNBA games on the basis of viewership. He has still not named the state or high school squad that will face the Aces. Although, he feels the boys will triumph by over 30 points.

The possibility of a showdown raises fascinating concerns about athleticism, talent, and the relationships between professional female athletes and high school guys. Travis’s plan is a daring attempt to disrupt the established order occurring in the world of professional sports. And also to draw the spotlight on women’s sports in his own unique way.

The risk factor involved for the Aces

While the idea offers increased awareness for the WNBA, the league is at a crossroads. Because if they win, their win might be discredited because they faced mere high-school boys. Although, by chance, if they lose, then the entire WNBA league might be discredited and never be respected by anyone. For the time being, the live audience who follow the WNBA is growing but is very low.

So with Travis’ suggestion, he might get the spotlight on the WNBA. But if the outcome is not in their favor, then the future of the WNBA is not looking good. Now whether this matchup takes place or not, it has undoubtedly prompted discussions that go to the very core of gender relations in sports.
