A'ja Wilson's joke to Becky Hammon—Is this the best team chemistry we've seen in the WNBA?

The Las Vegas Aces are known for two things. A’ja Wilson and Co’s dominating performances during games and their bonding and unserious demeanor off the court. However, the 6-ft-4 center is not known for revealing her “true” identity usually. But tonight looks like the late presser got to her head. Consequently, when a reporter asked her about her blocks, she gave a not-so-safe-for-work response right in front of her head coach, Becky Hammon.

The Aces won their third straight game on Friday night against the Atlanta Dream, 84-70. Certainly, A’ja Wilson finished the game as the leading scorer with 33 points. But what took the spotlight was her response in the postgame presser and her subsequent tweet. When Hammon spoke about her star player’s impact, she said, “You know, she got her hands, a lot of balls, blocked a lot of shots.” Wilson replied with a smirk, “You know how I do,” as none of them couldn’t stop laughing.

Later, A’ja Wilson also posted the video clip to her X account. She captioned the tweet, “Gotta love some good D…efense 🤸🏾‍♀️” It is quite apparent how the 27-year-old was not in a serious mood to talk about her game.

Talking about her performance, tonight was her 4th game with 5 or more blocks this season. But that was not the only way she made history in the road win. Let us see how the Aces won over the hosting Atlanta Dream.

Tonight, it looked like the 2x WNBA champion was on a roll as she went for her seventh 30+ points game. She is also just 4 rebounds behind to take her spot for leading the league in rebounds back from the Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese. A’ja Wilson also tied Brittney Griner for most games with 25+ points and 10+ rebounds in a season (10). Wilson also left Becky Hammon behind in a franchise record. With her 3 steals tonight, she climbed up to the fourth spot on the all-time leaders’ list. She has 245 steals in her WNBA career now.

Have an interesting take?

Just a few games back, A’ja Wilson became Las Vegas’ all-time leading scorer as well. But her defense and offense tonight were quite remarkable. She bagged 33 points by going 13 of 23 from the field. The 2x Olympian also proved useful in increasing the length for the team as she hit 3 of 4 shots from beyond the arc. In addition to this, she also contributed to the team with 18 rebounds, 5 blocks, and 3 steals.

Previously, the Dream won over the Aces 74-78. However, they could not protect their home as Las Vegas left College Park with a sweet taste of victory. As for A’ja Wilson, we can confidently say that she will have many more opportunities to show her MVP-like season. But for her unserious mood, well, we cannot claim if it will be repeated or not.
