The unpleasantries don’t seem to be ending anytime soon for Angel Reese and Co. as Chicago faced its third consecutive loss tonight. The Washington Mystics, who had just one win this season, beat the Sky 83-81. It was an intense and frustrating game on Chicago’s end, as they had multiple opportunities to tie/take the lead. But nothing went in, including free throws. After the disappointing loss, Angel Reese’s absence in the post-game press conference has caught everyone’s attention, leaving her teammates to face the reporters.

After the game, Dana Evans and Chennedy Carter attended the presser. Evans answered questions regarding the team’s inability to make clutch 3-pointers and apparent weak chemistry. Apart from Evans, the team looked all over the place when it came to making shots beyond the arc.

Addressing the query, Evans, who was 2-2 from three-point range on the night, said, “Get catch and shoot threes, trust each other, get in the paint, make the extra pass, make the right winning play. I think that’s what it comes down to,” as she enlisted the things they need to work on to make a stronger impact going forward. The rest of the team went a disappointing 2-11 from deep.

Further, Evans was asked about the missing team chemistry. Clearing the air on that one, she told the reporters, “No, it’s just something that we just got to fix. We got to watch film and we got to watch the game to see what we can be better. Don’t just watch the game to just watch like, we got to point out the points where we’re not good, where we go three empty possessions like why are we having these empty possessions? What can we do to be better? We just got to look in the mirror and fix it.”

Chicago does need to work on themselves as the furious T-spoon stated after their previous loss against Connecticut. However, they still did try to make things work on Friday night.

The tone of the game was set in the opening quarter itself as Chicago went scoreless for over four minutes, allowing Washington to take a 9-0 lead. And the Mystics didn’t look back after that. While the Sky improved, the opening quarter struggles proved to be too much to overcome.

Double-double queen, Angel Reese had 10 points, 14 rebounds, and 2 assists, while the other rookie, Kamilla Cardoso, though going slow coming off from a shoulder injury, scored 12 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists. However, Marina Mabrey failed to shine in her area of expertise, i.e., beyond the arc and could score only 5 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists. Furthermore, she missed two crucial free throws at the end that could have tied the game.

Dana Evans, on the other hand, had taken hold on that one as she came through with every 3-point shot she made and scored 14 points. Coming off the bench, Chennedy Carter tuned into beast mode and scored a team-high 16 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists. Conclusively, there is still much to work for the Sky in many aspects, including a strong defense, making swift 3-point shots, and most importantly, a smooth team chemistry.
