The 2nd overall draft rookie Cameron Brink has been making headlines for numerous reasons after stepping into the league, however, nothing compared to the pain she is going through right now. She sustained a knee injury in a matchup against the Connecticut Sun. From Angel Reese and NBA legend Magic Johnson, many are sending prayers for her speedy recovery, given her injury scare. Officially, she has now been declared out until fully recovered.

But these bumps don’t seem to end just yet for the ladies this season, as the next victim in line has been Mercury’s Sophie Cunningham who also sustained an unexpected blow in her shoulder.

It happened during the second quarter of the Phoenix Mercury’s matchup against the New York Liberty when Cunningham had the possession and was going for a layup when she was blocked by Jonquel Jones and intercepted by Betnijah Laney-Hamilton.

This encounter ended in Cunningham losing control falling on the floor with a painful blow coming in with Betnijah Laney-Hamiton landing on her elbow and hitting her shoulder. She lay there feeling the painful discomfort. She was then helped up by her teammates.

Before her injury, Sophie Cunningham had already scored 13 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists, off the bench. Fortunately, the lead was still in the hands of Mercury as they moved on with the game. Veterans Diana Taurasi and Brittney Griner scored 19 points each with Taurasi grabbing 9 rebounds and 5 assists and Griner grabbing 4 rebounds and 2 assists.

Similarly, Kahleah Copper and Rebecca Allen scored 17 points each with Copper grabbing 2 rebounds and Allen adding in 7. As for Cunningham’s injury, it doesn’t seem to be that serious as her status hasn’t changed after evaluation. Although she was in pain and if things go south, she can be out for the remainder of the season. However, Cunningham stunned her fans before the game, showing up in a jazzy jersey.

Before yesterday’s game, Sophie Cunningham too followed the trend and entered the Footprint Arena wearing an oversized Arizona Coyotes jersey.

She paired the red sweater with a pair of black sunglasses and heels to complete her look. Moreover, she posted her before and during the game looks on X, in response to which the fans went crazy and flooded the comment section.

Injuries are a part and parcel of the game and it is unexpected when that painful moment arrives for a player while they are out on the court, putting their best foot forward. And, one can only pray and hope that her injury doesn’t turn out to be that serious, and that she recovers soon enough to play the next game against the Minnesota Lynx.
