With every game, Angel Reese is doing something that not many have done in the 27-year history of the WNBA. For instance, tonight, she became the only WNBA player to have three consecutive 20+ rebound games. Certainly, she was also down to fight in the paint tonight as the Chicago Sky welcomed the 2x reigning Champions, the Las Vegas Aces. Still, her work on the glass did not bear any results, as the Chi-Town Barbie missed her field goals almost every time. Something that the loyal Chicago followers are not ready to accept.
For some time now, Angel Reese’s subpar field goal percentages have triggered the fans of the franchise. So much so that they have called her out to improve on it before as well. Nevertheless, seems like the seventh overall pick is unable to follow suit. Tonight, against the Aces, she went 4 of 16 from the field. This translates to merely 25% for the night. Something which is very low for a post player who is mostly going for layups from under the bucket.
Tonight was not the only time that she had a low percentage of made shots from the field. In the last 5 games since the WNBA resumed, Angel Reese has only averaged 28% from the field, making only 20 of 71 shots. She is also only 66% from the free-throw line. On the other hand, she is breaking the ceilings of her rebounding game. She has added 88 rebounds, with the only WNBA record to stand for three consecutive 20+ rebounds games.

However, the Sky has lost 4 of those 5 games. Bringing the fact to light that Reese’s field goal percentage needs to go up soon. If we look closely at the Sky rookie’s overall averages for the 29 WNBA games she has played so far, she is averaging 39% from the field. Not to mention, this number is keeping her from pulling a win for her team, despite the unbelievable rebounds. But with tonight’s game logged into the books for Chicago, the fans cannot help but look at her stats.
Angel Reese unsettles Chicago fans yet again
Resonating with the same, one fan wrote about how she may be the best rebounder right now, but her field goals are not worth mentioning. Currently, Angel Reese is leading the league in rebounds with 12.9 per game, with A’ja Wilson following her closely with 12 boards on average.
“Angel Reese might rebound better than anyone I’ve ever seen, but 4/16 from the field is wildly bad.”
The Chicago Sky may have had 3 boards more than the Aces with a 47-44 comparison. However, the Sky’s points in the paint were only 34. In comparison, the visiting Las Vegas had 40. Of course, Reese is one of the bigs who is supposed to add more to this number. Hence, an X user mentioned that they are not using their rebounds as they should.
“Doesn’t matter how many boards you grab if you can’t do anything with them.”
There have also been some WNBA followers who claim that half of the o-boards that Angel Reese grabs are her own missed shots. Otherwise, the opponent takes the possession to convert. While we cannot confirm or deny these thoughts, seems like the fans will not let it go until it is addressed by someone.
“Half of a rebounds are her miss shot so that’s something you can’t really hold up as an accomplishment”
One more follower mentioned the same. This time, they brought proof with them, in case someone wanted to investigate the matter thoroughly. The clip is from their previous meetings where Reese is fighting Wilson in the paint but is unable to make a successful shot. The women’s basketball follower mentioned how they believe she got four offensive rebounds in the same sequence.
Gr8 rebounder these are all her own missed attempts. Smh think she got 4 here pic.twitter.com/hvZteZDCfd

Of course, everyone has some tips to provide as well. A basketball enthusiast did not stay behind in giving advice to the rookie either as they gave her a game plan. They commented that only 25% from the field is not good for any player working in the paint. Hence, she should be picking up the rebounds and passing the ball outside. Then, a guard or any other player can take the turn with the shot clock back to 24 seconds.
“If she gets the board, resets the clock, passes it out to open shooter, NOW WE TALKIN. 25% from 2 feet is NOT GOOD>”

Neither Angel Reese nor the Sky head coach Teresa Weatherspoon has mentioned any issue with the same as of yet. Hence, we can always look at the brighter side. Hopefully, the rookie will bump up her shooting game in the upcoming matchups to contend in the Rookie of the Year race.
