Kamilla Cardoso's fiery side—Is this the passion the WNBA needs more of?

Kamilla Cardoso is shining on the court lately, but a hilarious off-court moment has also caught fan attention. The Chicago Sky rookie, portrayed as having a rather mean streak, has been on a roll this season, making her presence in the league known. Although her team has lost more than won lately, Cardoso has been a standout star among this year’s rookies. But, it’s her latest livestream that has caught fan attention currently.

Cardoso went head-to-head with Amazon’s Alexa after the AI supposedly played the wrong song. A fan account shared a post with a screen recording of the moment, which shows Cardoso sitting in a hotel room. The Sky player can be seen looking at something off-camera as the comments pour in. But a few seconds in, she realizes it’s not the song she asked for.

“Alexa, stop the music, h*e,” Cardoso says, and then turns to the camera, “Stop it…I don’t know what that song was.” Then she gets up to take something from her bed and comes back to sit in front of the camera.

It’s a small moment in a long livestream, but fans can’t have enough of the Sky player!

Fans can’t have enough of a different side of Kamilla Cardoso

Known for a personality that not everyone vibes with, Kamilla Cardoso is often turning heads. Standing at 6’7″, the Brazilian often delivers jaw-dropping performances on the court and has earned herself quite the fan following. When a fan posted the clip from her livestream with the caption, “Kamilla Cardoso’s reaction to Alexa playing the wrong song.😭” a flurry of comments came in.

“Why she curse her out like that 😂😂😂😂,” wrote another. Alexa being Alexa, all of us are familiar with trying to give instructions to the AI that it doesn’t always follow correctly. So, Cardoso’s reaction was understandable, but fans still laughed at her straight-up cursing the technology!

Have an interesting take?

Another pointed out, “She is hilarious without even trying to be,” while one thought it was Marvin Gaye Alexa chose to play! “Girl that was Marvin?!?!? What you mean! Alexa was tryna teach you something lol.”

Fans are not the only ones who’ve noticed the carefree personality that always leaks out, no matter where the Sky player is or what she’s doing. Point in case, when the Gamecocks were up against Caitlin Clark’s Iowa at the Final Four game earlier this year, Cardoso was as chill as she could be.

On the courtside, she danced, showed off her soccer dribbling skills, and then tried to shoot the ball off the giant scoreboard hanging 100 feet above her head. Maybe even annoyed her teammates a little, as Ashlyn Watkins said, “She’s just silly and she’s always doing crazy stuff like that for no reason.”

And fans would agree, as one wondered why they’d never seen this side of her when Cardoso was in college, “Idk if Dawn kept Kamilla’s phone locked up while she was at South Carolina or what but I love getting to see this side of her 😭🤣.”

The reputation Cardoso has earned for being ‘mean’ was cemented when she had a benches-clearing moment with LSU Tigers’ Angel Reese. But, teammate Bree Hall had nothing to say but good words, “She’s just something different. I think it’s unfortunate that the media has made it that she’s this mean person. She is not. She is a beautiful Brazilian warrior. She’s so sweet, always smiling, always happy for all of us.”

Another simply said, “How can you not love Kamila!” and Hall would agree, “She’s super funny and just a joyful and cheerful person.”

It might have been a language barrier that stopped Kamilla Cardoso from mingling in at first. The Brazilian reportedly knew just three words when she first came to the States, “hi,” “yes” and “bye”. LSU’s Flau’jae Johnson saw that transition over time firsthand, “I remember her not knowing English…She was so mean when she first got here. She was so mean to us. She developed over time.”

Well, be it her game or be it English speaking skills, or even her personality, Kamilla Cardoso is winning hearts left and right. Even though there will always be some critics out there, the Chicago Sky player is not worried, as long as she gets to play her best basketball day in and day out!
