The WNBA star Chennedy Carter drew a lot of attention after her recent fiasco with Caitlin Clark. The basketball fraternity came forward with their argument and took sides. Carter had actually pushed Clark which caused the latter to fall to the ground. Though she was given a common foul, the WNBA upgraded it to Flagrant 1 foul in order to penalize her for her behavior.

But not much is known about her life. It would come as a surprise that Carter found her early inspiration in the NBA veteran Allen Iverson. Her journey has been marked by sparks of brilliance and with occasional downfalls that follow owing to her temperament.

Carter was born to Broderick Carter and Shonda Perkins on 14 November 1998 in Fort Worth Texas. Since her childhood, she was inspired by Allen Iverson whose style she copied. Carter also found inspiration in her second cousin Jia Perkins who also retired as a WNBA athlete.

All this led her to play for Mansfield High School in Texas where her team had an abysmal record of 2-23. She then transferred to Timberview High School but did not represent the team during her sophomore year. However, it was in her junior year that Carter displayed exemplary skills.

She averaged 20.4 points per game with 4.5 rebounds per match and an equal number of assists per outing. She also propelled her team to the Texas 5A state runner-up position.

Carter then followed her high school performances by accepting a college offer from the Texas A&M team. One shining moment that marked her arrival was when she basketed 34 points in a blowout loss to Team USA in 2019. This cemented her place in the team and also set the path for the years to come.

Chennedy Carter’s controversial WNBA career

Post a fabulous college career, Carter was drafted by the Atlanta Dream as the fourth overall pick. However, she failed to achieve the same success she had in college. Combined with a rebellious attitude, Carter failed to mark her presence in the big league.

In 2021, Carter was suspended by the Atlanta Dream. The incident happened when Carter was caught in an altercation with teammate Courtney Williams. Carter wasn’t getting much game time which she expressed to Williams when the latter asked her to contribute more from the bench.

The fiasco between the two escalated so much so that Carter didn’t return to play any game for the Dream as she was suspended. She was then traded to the Los Angeles Sparks in 2022.

But her bad luck continued even with the Sparks since she continued to be benched for “poor conduct.” After the Sparks fired their head coach Derek Fisher, the interim coach Fred Williams did not play Carter for 4 games. Overall, Carter averaged just 8.9 points per game with the Sparks. And next found a home in the Sky.

Her journey with the Sky was going great and devoid of controversy when she suddenly fouled Clark and since then she has been trending on social media. Hopefully, Carter will take cognizance of the past and compose herself before taking the next step.
