It all started in 2019 when Stewart was playing in the 2019 EuroLeague Women. Just like Stewart, Casademont signed with Dynamo Kursk after playing in the WNBA for the Phoenix Mercury. Despite sharing similar experiences, both players were just teammates.
However, Stewart suffered an injury during the 2019 EuroLeague Women finals on April 14. Later, her injury was confirmed as a torn Achilles, urging her to fly back to the USA for a speedy recovery. Still, her torn Achilles took an entire WNBA season to recover. While Stewart was in her lowest phase, something remarkable started. That too on the night when the American-born player got injured.
“Me being injured was like a blessing in disguise,” Stewart said, via People. From here, Casademont acted as a catalyst in the relationship Stewart shared with her. At this time, both players were in a long-distance relationship. “Those moments and memories were huge for kind of what helped blossom our relationship into what it is.” After two years of dating, by 2021, Stewart realized Casademont was the person she could rely upon for the rest of her life.
How did Stewart go from desert proposal to rooftop vows?
On May 2, 2021, Breanna finally popped the question in a desert in Phoenix, Arizona. “Did a thing. Another ring. She said Yes. #Wifey,” she penned on her official Instagram account alongside pictures of the couple. On the other hand, Marta wrote, “Life isn’t just about the moments; it’s about who we share them with! I said YES #Wifey.”

Interestingly, Marta wasn’t really willing to go hiking in the desert, but later she agreed. “I don’t want to be outside, she planned the whole day…I was like, ‘Okay, let’s do it.'” On July 6, 2021, the couple finally tied the knot on the rooftop of Stewart’s apartment in an intimate ceremony. To share their memorable moment, only a few friends were invited, including Katie Lou Samuelson. In the same year, Marta also bid adieu to her playing career with, “Goodbye, but you will always be in my memories, and I will always treasure the memories that I created with you,” she penned on Instagram. Although she added a full stop to certain achievements, she soon embraced her new set of responsibilities.
Welcoming new lives
Within a couple of months, the newly wedded couple welcomed their daughter, Ruby, via surrogacy. In 2019, Breanna Stewart froze her eggs while she was injured, and after two years, her eggs transformed into a new blissful life. “The best part of this year has been becoming a mother and growing a family with my incredible wife,” Marta penned.
