Born in Poway, California, Kelsey is one of the four children of Katie and Jim Plum. She developed an early interest in sports courtesy of the athletic background of her parents. Plum’s mother Katie has been a decorated volleyball player in her college days and had the opportunity to represent the University of California, Davis on a national level. Moreover, her contributions played a pivotal role in the Aggies finishing third in the 1979-80 season. Currently, she has not disassociated herself from the sport and is providing the services of an athletic trainer.

Similarly, her husband also had a distinguished collegiate career. However, it was not limited to a single sport. Jim Plum started developing himself as a football player during his time at Helix High School in La Mesa, California. In addition to this, he was also an All-American before entering college. Then, Jim took his talents to San Diego State where he realized that he could excel in baseball as well. Consequently, he had the privilege to represent the Aztecs on both the turfs.

Anyhow, Kelsey is not the only child who inherited the sports DNA from her parents.
