Is Gabbie Marshall's story a testament to resilience, or does it highlight flaws in the WNBA system?

The trifecta of Caitlin Clark, Gabbie Marshall and Kate Martin turned Iowa into an elite basketball program. Courtesy of two back-to-back national championship games, the Hawkeyes are now a force to be reckoned with. While both Clark and Martin headed to the WNBA to pursue their careers in professional basketball, things didn’t pan out that way for the 23-year-old. But, that doesn’t mean she’s forgotten in any sense.

As it turns out, Gabbie Marshall chooses to keep her fans updated about any recent developments through social media. And that was when it came to the surface that the former Iowa No.24 moved to North Carolina to pursue a Master’s in Occupational Therapy. This came after she made her retirement from basketball official.

As it turns out, Marshall never announced to be a part of the 2024 drafts and wanted to focus more on her academics. With a degree in Health and Human Physiology, she parted ways with Iowa after spending 5 glorious years under Lisa Bluder.

But, moving to North Carolina is not the only interesting course of action she’s undertaking. Evidently, she is chosen by the Joint Chiropractic in Coralville to be its brand ambassador. She broke the news through an Instagram post 5 weeks ago.

The caption reads, “Just swung by The Joint Chiropractic – Coralville for some personalized, quality care with a side of awesome! Thanks for keeping me in the game, even off the court. Check them out—they have a $29* new patient special!” Following this, her former teammate and Indiana sensation was thrilled to know about this. She congratulated her by saying, “Dude, this is seriously awesome.”

However, that’s not all. Her social media also provides evidence that she is still a popular entity among fans. Last month, Marshall decided to put autographed 8.5 x 11 inches photographs on sale. Soon after, all the 250 copies were sold effortlessly. Well, it doesn’t come as a surprise given the fact that she was among the most decorated Hawkeye athletes.

Showcasing her efficiency in defense, Gabbie Marshall was quite a handful for Lisa Bluder over the years. But taking her offensive abilities into the picture, she did become the 44th Hawkeye athlete to go past the 1000-point mark. In addition to this, the 5 ft 9 in guard is the only women’s basketball player from Iowa to secure 200 three-pointers along with 200 steals. Speaking of records, she is currently 6th on Iowa’s all-time list.

Moreover, Gabbie Marshall recorded her best season as a sophomore. In the 2020-21 season, she played a total of 30 games scoring 273 points. That averaged to around 9.1 points per contest. Eventually, her career ended with 1091 points in 166 games garnering her 6.6 points in every game.

Gabbie Marshall still remains an inspiration to many. Hardly anyone would argue that the way she carried out her college basketball career is truly remarkable. As she sets on a new voyage, nothing but best wishes extend for the 23-year-old.
