Indiana Fever may not be the No.1 team in early title predictions, but they sure came out a winner this offseason. Fans’ excitement aside, Aaliyah Boston is here to attest just how ready the team is for the season ahead. “Like every time we get on the court, and we are practicing or we are playing pick up, we are like ‘I can’t wait to get this season started,'” the 2023 ROTY stated. Rightfully so. They have got all the pieces in place.
Post-season experience, defense, and a young core. The Fever have managed to tick all the boxes. DeWanna Bonner and Natasha Howard couldn’t have been better picks to kick-start the overhaul and a defense-focused draft class to close it out. Every sign is reading positive. Even FanDuel has the team’s odds place at +350 only behind the reigning champions NY Liberty. Now, only days remain for Fever to test out their best fits at the training camp. And an opportunity to fine-tune their rotations? That follows closely with the pre-season games.

Indiana Fever preseason dates
Indiana will be playing three preseason games before kick-starting their season. The Fever’s objective there has appeared even clearer ever since the draft. Compete at all costs. Confident in their identity, Indiana believes they’re a contender now, choosing to pick the best players available who can provide valuable minutes come Playoffs.
“You think about best available [player]. You’ve got to be prepared for anything,” Amber Cox said leading up to the draft. “Just looking for people who can come in here and compete.” Indiana is focused on having a competitive training camp and hoped to find pieces that could battle and enhance the roster in that setting. Now with that in place, the team gears up to face two familiar opponents and one otherwise in about 2 weeks’ time.
1. Washington Mystics – May 3rd, 3 PM ET: Stephanie White’s squad will take off for the season in facing a team that is in the midst of a rebuild. So the focus is largely on player development. Having drafted the young trio of Sonia Citron (#3), Kiki Iriafen (#4) and Georgia Amoore (#6), the Mystics are hoping to get the players settled into the league first.
2. Brazilian National Team – May 4th, 3PM ET: The Fever’s second pre-season game will be played against an unfamiliar opponent. This one would be a special yet strange for Fever center Damiris Dantas as she would be competing against her own national team. Dantas was even a part of the Brazilian basketball team at both the 2012 as well as the 2016 Olympics. This game is set to be the first WNBA preseason game ever broadcast nationally (on ESPN/ESPN2), bringing significant attention to the team and the league even before the regular season starts.
3. Atlanta Dream – May 10th, 3 PM ET: The Dream have also made considerable moves in the offseason. Their acquisition of Brittney Griner, Brionna Jones, and Shatori Walker-Kimbrough has been at the forefront of the recent revamp the squad has gone through adding significant depth and hiring new head coach Karl Smesko, hoping he could replicate the success he enjoyed at Florida Gulf Coast University.

1. Gainbridge Fieldhouse: Indiana Fever is looking to start the campaign strong with the first pre-season game at home.
2. Carver-Hawkeye Arena: Caitlin Clark will be heading to her old stomping ground for the second game of 2025. For the first time in franchise history, the Fever will take the court at the home of Iowa. Kelly Krauskopf conveys what special a moment it is for Clark’s faithful and the team itself. “Countless Hawkeye fans have become Fever fans, and we consider them family,” she said. “That’s what will make this preseason matchup so special for us.”
This game follows a recent trend of WNBA teams playing special preseason games at college venues connected to their star players. The Las Vegas Aces played in South Carolina, A’ja Wilson’s alma mater, last year, and the Chicago Sky are also playing Brazil at Angel Reese’s alma mater, LSU, this preseason.
