Breanna Stewart's net worth is skyrocketing—Is she the most influential player in the WNBA today?

In less than a decade, Breanna Stewart has successfully established herself as one of the most successful players in WNBA history. Drafted as the 1st overall pick in 2016, Stewart already has two WNBA championships and two Olympic gold medals under her belt and is now leading the USAWB team to add another one in Paris. And the way she performed in the pre-Olympic exhibition game, she sure looks confident to bring the 8th consecutive Olympic gold for the country.

Apart from this, she has a whole host of individual accolades including 2x WNBA Finals MVP, 2x League MVP, 6x All-Star, the 2021 Olympics Basketball Tournament MVP, and the list goes on. As a result, this makes her one of the marketable faces in the WNBA. So, let’s explore how much she earns and what is her current net worth.

As of 2024, Breanna Stewart’s basketball achievements, like titles and awards, have contributed to a net worth of $5 million, signifying her financial success and her deep influence and stature in basketball. After coming fresh off winning 4 consecutive NCAA championships for UConn, the 2016 No.1 pick signed a 4-year rookie deal with the Seattle Storm. Following two championships in those years, Stewart extended her stay in Seattle for two more years, signing a $375,000 contract. However, that proved to be her final contract with the Storm.

In 2023, she signed a 1-year contract with the New York Liberty for $175,000. She led the franchise to its first Finals appearance in two decades. However, they lost to the Las Vegas Aces. Following this, she signed another 1-year deal with the Liberty worth $205,000. While this makes her only the 15th highest-paid player in the WNBA this season, she has a lot of other earning avenues.

In 2016, Breanna Stewart signed a multi-year endorsement deal with Nike. At the time, she was yet to embark on her WNBA journey when she inked the deal. However, she understood her responsibilities as an athlete well. “Being strong and bold while carrying yourself with humility and confidence is something I hope to share with young kids,” Stewart said at the time, stepping in as a positive influence to young players around the world.

However, this deal didn’t last long. Stewart ended the 5-year-partnership with the brand as she wanted to switch and become a signature athlete with Puma. As a result, in 2021, Stewart left Nike and signed an endorsement deal with Puma. The deal came with a promise of the development and release of her line of products like a signature shoe.

“Anytime you hear signature, I think that’s jaw-dropping, eye-opening, especially on the women’s side. There haven’t been many. … For Puma to be able to put the signature element out there, [and] respect me enough where they think that I deserve a signature shoe, is something that’s super exciting,” Stewart told ESPN on signing the partnership deal with the world’s third-largest sportswear manufacturer.

On the other hand, Puma signed Stewart to set the bar for modern brand deals for women, because landing a player like Stewart, as a Puma brand executive, put it, “Best women’s basketball player in the world.” It was the brand’s way to come back and establish the Puma Hoops category. What happened next was that Puma began to create a signature shoe for Stewie, with a timeline of 12-18 months of design and development.

The era of Stewie began

As a result, in 2022, Puma launched Stewart’s first signature shoe – Stewie 1 under its Women’s Hoops category. Reflecting Stewart’s personality and game, Stewie 1, by design, featured multi-zoned mono mesh layers for targeted support. Further, it had a Molded Heel Counter with scars representing Stewart’s two Achilles surgeries.

Later on, Puma also launched an apparel capsule called Overdue, which included Stewie 1 and 9 other items like Stewie Packable Jacket, Stewie Packable Snap Pant, Stewie Sports Bra, Stewie Shorts, Stewie Crewneck, Stewie Legging, Stewie Graphic Tee, AOP Graphic Tee, and Stewie Jersey.

In May 2023, the brand launched Stewie 2 for the 2x WNBA Finals MVP, celebrating different aspects of Stewart’s life that drove her to be a natural force as the outsole represented elements of nature – fire, wind, and water. The shoe featured in the ‘Ruby’ colorway, after Stewart’s daughter Ruby, as an inspiration for her grounding strength of motherhood. Not only did she want to name it after her daughter but also paid homage to the unshaken strength of mothers on this planet.

Extending the spirit of strength in motherhood, Puma launched another apparel pack accompanying Stewie 2 that included vibrant ruby-red hoodies, tees, tights, and shorts with allover flame graphics and Breanna Stewart and PUMA.

Taking inspiration from Stewart’s WNBA career and family, Puma continued the legacy and launched Stewie 3 ‘Dawn’ in April 2024. The inner colorway is decorated with flowers, giving a nod to the two cities where Stewart won her Olympic gold medals, Tokyo and Rio. It is wrapped in a yellow-orange gradient resembling the rising sun, illustrating that “women’s basketball players work from sunrise to sunset,” as Stewart put it. With Stewart still going strong, we can expect more iterations of her Puma sneakers.
