“What is delayed is not denied.” A’ja Wilson confirmed her loyalists as much as she did herself back in May. A storm of questions came up to her and Nike as Caitlin Clark announced her $28 million/ 8-year deal with the mogul shoe brand. However, what we saw was a calm and collected 2x WNBA champion. But was she really like that on the inside? Well, we have the answer to that!
On the latest episode of Locked on Women’s Basketball, Gigi Speer and Peter Verry break down what went on in the Nike office after Caitlin Clark’s news release. Giving the tidbits, Verry said, “She was really open and honest about the whole process with Nike. These conversations that she had like ‘Hey, am I good enough for you?’ ‘What do I have to do more to prove myself that I deserve this.'”
According to the Footwear News reporter, A’ja Wilson told him what exactly Nike responded with. They said, “Just relax! Trust the process! This is going to happen.” He further mentioned how Wilson could finally say that she had a shoe she was really happy with. The Las Vegas Aces superstar had previously mentioned how the behind-the-scenes work for her shoes has been going on since 2023. Certainly, all the secrecy for almost two years now surely riled up everyone.

But what can we expect new from her signature shoes that we have not already seen by Nike?
Revealing the hidden gems of the A’One shoes by A’ja Wilson
Surely, Peter Verry walked into Speer’s podcast bearing a lot of news for the listeners and the Wilson enthusiasts. After spilling the beans on what the insider conversations with A’ja Wilson looked like, he also came out with details of the product itself. Apparently, he was surprised by what the professional athlete described. So far, the No. 22 forward on Aces has worn her Nike Cosmic Unity and LeBron’s signature cleats. These shoes are sturdy and made for a player of length like A’ja Wilson who stands at 6-ft-4.
However, what she told Verry was a lot different than her on-court choices. Talking about the detailing of the shoes, he said, “These sound like more on the lines of Kobe silhouette than LeBron. She said, ‘It’s a low top which she typically doesn’t wear on the court. It’s very versatile.'” For A’ja Wilson, the key thing was the comfort.

Nike and A’ja Wilson are both very tight-lipped on the A’One. Nevertheless, it is only getting more people’s attention. It will be very interesting to see how the first overall pick from 2018 has given her own touches to the entire signature line. Until then, we have a gold medal game against France to catch up to.
