2 major games in 1 day. Double adrenaline, double the fun. While Caitlin Clark’s Fever was competing with Diana Taurasi’s Mercury, the Chicago Sky was battling against the Minnesota Lynx on Sunday. Much like how Clark has been impacting every game, her arch nemesis Angel Reese isn’t far behind. Notably, she accomplished a major record in the WNBA. This came as a surprise for many whereas for her mother it was a nervous moment. The clip of her mother, who shares the same initial name as her daughter Angel, was circulated online.

Reese became the first player in WNBA history to have 10 straight double-doubles in a single season. What started off as a one-off game performance against the New York Liberty when Reese had 13 points and 10 rebounds, culminated into a double-double streak with the Chi-Town Barbie adding 10 points and 16 rebounds against the Minnesota Lynx.

When Reese was at the free throw line with a chance to reach the 10-point mark, the camera zoomed onto her mother – Angel Webb Reese. She looked towards the sky as if remembering the Almighty’s name. And it paid off since Reese scored off a free throw that helped her get 10 points for the night. Angel Webb, along with the other spectators, started clapping for her daughter with pride. And, it was Reese’s display and her mother’s reaction that stole the show.

Reese in the process surpassed the former Los Angeles Sparks star Candace Parker who had secured 9 consecutive double-doubles in 2015. Parker’s record started with the Seattle Storm when she added 12 points and 10 rebounds and continued till her game against the Washington Mystics when she scored 26 points and 11 rebounds.

Her 9 back-to-back double-doubles also included one against the Chicago Sky when she scored 21 points with 10 assists. Hence, one thing that Reese’s fans would wish is that she also contributes heavily in assists like she has been doing in points and rebounds. While Reese has surpassed the single-season record, she isn’t too far off from the overall record either. That too was set by Parker with 12 consecutive double-doubles. There’s a high chance the Chi-Town Barbie breaks that as well.

Meanwhile, the reaction from Webb Reese was expected since she has been a vital supporter of her daughter’s game.

Angel Webb Reese has been a true support for Angel Reese

Reese grew up with her single mother and yet did not ever face a lack of a father figure. Her mother happily played both roles for her daughter. Reese grew up with her brother Julian and the basketball ethics were inculcated in both the kids by their mother. Webb Reese plied her trade as a baller for the UMBC during her youth and also had her jersey retired.

While Angel’s father did not keep a cordial relationship with her daughter, it was her mother who encouraged both the kids and taught them to hoop among other things. Webb Reese is also said to have played professionally in Luxembourg. And that definitely reflects in Reese’s mature game.

Now that Webb Reese’s hard work is showing on the court, more fans would acknowledge the vital role she has played in her daughter’s life. Hopefully, she will be taken as an inspiration by all, as more parents will encourage their daughters to take up the sport professionally.
