Marine Johannes of the Liberty took a daring three-point attempt, during the 4th quarter of the match with only 1 minute and 23 seconds left on the clock. The scoreboard displayed the scores of Liberty-82 and Aces-97. However, Johannes missed the shot and the battle for rebound began. Kayla Thornton of the Liberty and Chelsea Gray of the Aces jumped into action, both with the sole purpose of securing the possession.?
While both of them were trying to secure the possession, Thornton?s hand, what seemed to be unintentional, smacked Gray’s face. Gray was filled with frustration due to this play by Thornton and what happened next shows us the true sportsmanship in the players. As soon as they both landed, Thornton quickly acknowledged her mistake and started apologizing to Gray. Gray, on her part, realized that Thornton didn’t mean to do it and she calmed down. This foul from Thornton resulted in free shots for Gray.
